What can a dentist do in this situation?

Posting for AIBU traffic hoping the thread will find someone who knows the subject.

Apologies in advance if it sounds a bit OTT , I've had a slew of horrible dentists and even some bodged up work in the past as a young girl and I'm always really anxious when it comes to having to see one now even though my current one is lovely.

So about 10ish years ago I had my bottom 6s removed (or 7s? theres just one tooth left behind each one followed by the currently emerging wisdom teeth).
Not sure how to describe it but here it goes.
It's been fine for ages and now over the past few weeks I have an ache in the area where the gum sealed over the removal site, when I press my tongue against it the gum that joins onto the tooth behind feels a bit thin in comparison to my right side which feels quite thick and strong and less shallow.

It's been bothering me more and more but I'm currently avoiding making an appointment by convincing myself there is nothing that can be done about it.
Could someone please shine a light on possible outcomes of this situation? - it really helps me knowing even a little of what I can potentially expect so I can make an appointment without feeling sick and like I'm walking to my execution.

I sympathise about finding a good dentist. I think I have just found one after nearly 20 years.
Can you get a recommendation from someone?
In your situation I would just make an appointment for a regular check up and mention your concerns during the appointment.

I have a good dentist thanks @VictoriaLudorum I just get extremely anxious and struggle to work up the courage to book and see them.

if you call the dentist and tell the receptionist you're especially nervous they can be so helpful and kind. they can make special arrangements and speak to the dentist in advance for you or ensure you get a dentist that is not scary. You'll be fine OP. I used to be like you and terrified but now I am so much better.

@muffindays thanks.

My dentist is actually fab. She's lovely and always explains everything really well and that's without my background.
The issue is that I can't actually bring myself to make a call at all/ make an appointment unless I have an idea of what the outcome of the visit might be.

Part of me is terrified there might be lots of treatment and part of me is worried there's nothing they can do for me.
