To think my 2 year 10 month old is tall for his age?

He’s 100cm. Whenever we’re out and about people seem to think he’s older, like 3 and a half, maybe older.
His grandad (my dad) is 6’4, but his own dad is only about 5’9, as is his other grandad. I’m 5’7 and one of the male cousins on my dad’s side is 6’7…so I guess he may be taking after my dad’s side at the rate he’s going.

Quite tall but not unusual, what centile is that?
My dd was 97cm at just turned 2. She's so tall she doesn't even have a centile line.
People do sometimes expect her to be older and give her a funny look if she's in the buggy or taking her time on a slide or something but it's not really an issue.

My ds is 2 years 6 months and just under 94cm which is 50th centile apparently.

@Hamandcucumber

I guess he’ll likely be tall then, people just seen to assume he should be more forward than he is.
Yes, happened to my 2. They looked way older than they were. Grew out of age-appropriate toys (ride-ons) early. Car seats were a bugger. They were out of their first car seats (the portable ones) far too soon, and it was a faff finding ones that had the right level of support. Same with boosters, I felt they still needed 5-point harnesses but hard to find at their size. Then having to pay for adult-sized runners when they were 11/12 really stung! They were about 40% more expensive than kids sizes.

DS1 is 16 now and 6'3" - I worry when he's out, cos he looks like a man but he's actually still a bit naive & shy.

Mine were always tall. They ended buying those t shirts with age in them when they were little so people would stop expecting them to act older.

I could never do that, they were always too big for the age ! I needed a 4 on an age 7-8 top!
AJB3001 · 03/08/2021 10:52

Mine was the same, he was a teeny tiny baby but by 4 months he was in 9-12 clothes, he is extremely long and fairly solid (although he has lost a stone in 4 months due to us not knowing he had coeliac) so now at 5 and a half he is 130cm and 24.5kg and towers above the other kids at school, but he loves it, forever telling his dad he's gonna look after him at the pub when he's older 🙈🙈

ladygindiva · 03/08/2021 10:56

Yes that's tall. My 4yo is 100cm mind she's a shorty, my mum is 5 foot nothing so I blame that 🤣

TwinsandTrifle · 03/08/2021 10:59

He's about 5cm bigger than average.

This. Of all the things to worry AIBU....

Ozanj · 03/08/2021 11:02

DS is 101cm at 19 months. But I don’t have many tall ppl in my family and everyone in DH’s family is under 5 ft 8, so I am putting it down to him frontloading his development.

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/08/2021 11:04

My daughter is 2.5 and 96cm, people assume she can do more than she can, we have to tell them how old she is.

Chocolatebuttercream · 03/08/2021 11:10

Yes, the 50th centile for a 3 year old is 96cm so he is tall.

My DS is exactly the same age and is above the 100th centile. People always think he is older and I do think they expect more of him as a result in terms of behaviour and ability.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 03/08/2021 11:13

Be glad he's a boy, Dds always been off the centile scale, she was 5ft6 by the time she was 11, outgrown just about all childrens clothes ranges. Whilst people always assumed she was older that was to do with skills and maturity, now I have to deal with letchy men looking at my primery school aged child Angry thinking she's older than she is although letching over a 14 or 15 year old is almost as awful.
