To think the Golden Girls had a great living arrangement

And wonder why more people don't do it?

I recently noticed golden girls was on Disney+ and remembered my mum watching it when I was younger so put it on for a bit of nostalgia.

Four older divorced/widowed women living in a house share just seems like a great idea to me. Lots of women in their situation find themselves lonely and struggling financially so this just seems like a perfect solution. Obviously lots of people would hate it and it'd need to be a pretty big house but in a lot of ways it seems ideal to me but it's not something I've come across in real life.

I think it’s a great idea, I think Grace and Frankie shows some of the benefits of this as well. As well as some of the realities (dodgy knees etc). My two friends and I have said for years we’d do this.

My aunt did this with a friend. My aunt came out of her divorce very wealthy and bought herself a gorgeous big house. Later on her friend then found herself divorced and very hard up, so she moved in with my aunt. They have a whale of a time together!

They didn't like each other and we're nasty to each other.

Blanche was labelled a slag.
Rose was labelled stupid.

They weren't nice to each other

Well you need conflict to have a story. It can't be all rainbows.
ActonSquirrel · 01/08/2021 20:32

Yeah but I wouldn't speak to someone who labelled me a slag or stupid let alone live with them

LunaNorth · 01/08/2021 20:35

I remember my mum getting ready to take me to nursery school.

False teeth, petticoat, tan tights, Derry boots, headscarf. She would have been 38.

It also suggests somewhat that if you are past 50 you don’t have or want a sex life.

One of the things that I liked about the series is that all four of them had love interests at different times, including Sophia.

Definitely! I remember watching it in my teens and noticing that these ladies had much better love lives than me.

The golden girls loved each other! Were they mean at times, yes, but they were always there for each other. It wouldn't have been very funny if they were always polite and tip toeing around each other.

I agree. Their love for each other shone through so brightly.
