AIBU to find this dad's behaviour ridiculous?

I was on a walk with my 15 month old earlier today, my son (in his stroller) was playing with his favourite stuffed animal 'till he accidentally dropped it onto the pavement. A father and his (I'm guessing) son were walking closely behind us, I turned around to pick it up and noticed that it had fallen right in front of this child's feet. He was just stood there and was looking at my son's toy. I genuinely thought at this point "Oh, how nice of him! He's going to pick it up" but he smirked at me and kicked it onto the main road?! With running commentary from his dad saying great shot??? Hmm What made it even worse is when I said smth along the lines of there's no need for that, you know. His dad started having a go at me saying how the lad was only having a laugh, get a grip etc etc etc. I was genuinely baffled by this. I know kids get up to all sorts but this kid looked like he was easily 9/10 years old? Surely that's a bit old for shenanigans like that. But what annoyed me even more was the dad completely condoning his behaviour.

What I want to know is, was I being really precious here? I wasn't even expecting an apology but it would have been nice if he had at least told off his son for doing that. I know I would have done so if the roles had been reversed.

YANBU! What a shitty thing for that kid to do! Although not surprising given the arsehole he apparently has for a father.

chunderwunder · 31/07/2021 18:15

You're not precious. Kid's a shit but then what do you expect with a dad like that?

2LostSoulsSwimmingInAFishBowl · 31/07/2021 18:16

YANBU if my kid did that (neither of them would) they’d never do that again, I’d be fuming.

The fact the dad thought it was this was perfectly acceptable behaviour from his horrible child proves that the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree. Both of them are twats.

Longdistance · 31/07/2021 18:18

Well, the apple certainly didn’t fall far from that tree.

Laiste · 31/07/2021 18:18

Depressing isn't it?

I despair sometimes.
YANBU

Vates · 31/07/2021 18:19

YANBU. They will follow the example they are set. I would be embarrassed to be related to someone like that. I like to watch police shows and you always see the dopey Mum's and Dad's trying to protect their scummy kids.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/07/2021 18:20

What an absolute scumbag. Sadly, his son will probably grow up to be just like him. Yet another drain on society.

Anotherday21 · 31/07/2021 18:20

@Laiste It really was. I can only imagine what that kid is going to be like in X amount of years from now. It's just really, really sad.

YANBU

Agree.

I can't even get to grips with the idea that there are people in the world who actually cannot see this behaviour is wrong - lest encourage it Confused

WorraLiberty · 31/07/2021 18:22

I can't believe you're asking this!

BlackberrySky · 31/07/2021 18:23

I have a son that age. If he did that he would be taken home immediately and have consequences. What appalling behaviour from that dad. This is how teenage thugs are formed.

EarringsandLipstick · 31/07/2021 18:25

It's awful. And so depressing to think that that little boy has already formed those appalling brutish behaviours that will see him end up the same as his dad.

cadburyegg · 31/07/2021 18:25

@Longdistance

Well, the apple certainly didn’t fall far from that tree.
Agreed. Sad

YANBU OP

Popcornriver · 31/07/2021 18:26

Of course YANBU. I would be absolutely furious if my children did something like that. More shocked actually I think. It's really odd behaviour.

Imnothereforthedrama · 31/07/2021 18:41

Not surprising though , horrible children have horrible parents , they clearly enjoy making people upset which is quite shocking.

Minniem2020 · 31/07/2021 18:42

Ds is always dropping his favourite toy when we're out and about. I'd have gone absolutely apeshit if someone had done that to it, what a poor excuse for a human that dad is

beigebrownblue · 31/07/2021 18:43

Yes appalling.
Not least because if that had happened the little one might have been tempted to run into the road after the toy. They go like a shot at that age sometimes. It was really irresponsible of both of them.

Greenrubber · 31/07/2021 18:45

That's shocking! What a dick move both of them

pommepommefrites · 31/07/2021 18:49

He's teaching his son a great way to get twatted. Hope someone teaches the dad a lesson whilst his son watches soon.

Mulhollandmagoo · 31/07/2021 19:14

Oh god, if one of my kids did that I'd be absolutely mortified!!! They sound like a delightful pair

MrsEko · 31/07/2021 19:18

With things like this I always think what a shit life they must have and how bloody awful it must be to have such a big twat in your life.

girlmom21 · 31/07/2021 19:20

What a pair of knobheads!

LuaDipa · 31/07/2021 19:25

I sort of feel sorry for the kid growing up with that as a role model. Yanbu.

1forAll74 · 31/07/2021 19:38

Low brow Father, and a child to follow in his footsteps.

GalaxyGirl24 · 31/07/2021 19:40

He sounds bloody awful! Bad manners and just generally nasty!
