Dog outside all night

I have a German Shephard. And she stays/sleeps in the back garden all night I have a dog flap that is left open all night so she can come in and out of she wants to . I'm guessing this ok but I feel like I'm allowing a small child to stay out in the dark all night Confused

I think it’s lovely that he’s protecting you.

My useless Spaniel gets the arse if I stay up too late. He likes me to be in bed. With him.

Outs loves being outside at night. He wont come in. Sometimes we have to try and roll him in

This is what we had to do with ours he then dug himself a den at the back of the shed and we had to brush him out Confused he was a bugger but miss him

If he's happy and not making a nuisance, I don't see a problem with it.

Would you have a member of your family sleep in the garden? Your dog is part of your family

The dog is a dog. It is not human and is only 'part of the family' because we now anthropomorphise dogs. Much to their detriment often.

@TiredSloth "This makes me so sad. So in the pouring rain or freezing winter the dog isn’t allowed in the house? That’s awful. Why have a dog if it isn’t going to be a part of the family?"

I completely agree with you and have always felt very sorry for the dog, but he has shelter outside and is walked regularly and appears fine, so what do I know.

She's probably just cooler outside. She's a GHD, big strong girl and if she's happy, it's fine!

My jack Russell was born in a barn as the pup of a working dog and did not go into a house I brought her home . Her parents seemed as happy and healthy as can be . However , my dog pulls me back to the house if we are in a walk and there is a single drop of rain and she doesn’t like wind either so I guess all dogs are different . Mine chooses to spend the night in my double bed - I like to think to protect me !

We had larger dogs, including Bernese. There was no way they would sleep in a bed with us😂
They did try sometimes to fot on a chair with us😂 They were lovely. Such a nice characters

I think that the main thing is that she has a choice. My dogs would scrape at the door or whine to get in and yours seems totally content to be outside. The police force have lots of working alsatians and their handlers have them outdoors overnight in kennels - yours just doesn’t seem to want one! So if she’s happy, no problems!
