To not pay my ex to look after his children.

Ex and I separated 4 years ago, we have 2 young children. He doesn't work, not that he can't, he just doesn't bother. 3 years ago I got a part time job, one day a week, 12 hour shift. Our children have autism which is why i can't work fulltime. We agreed that instead of paying maintenance he would look after them the day I work. Now he is saying I'm taking advantage of him and he is demanding I pay him. He still does not pay maintenance. Is this situation unfair (for him)?

@Theunamedcat I live in Ireland so its a bit different. I was getting carers allowance but not entitled to it this year as i started a college course. You can only take part in work or education for up to 18 hours a week.

I would rather pay a professional than a lazy recalcitrant ''father'' who needs to be paid to look after his children one day a week.

And he thinks YOU are taking advantage of him so that you can go to work?

I don't imagine he will suddenly see reason though..

I'm in Ireland too and I'd stay on carer's allowance if you can. At least your pension contribution is taken out of the carer's allowance so you're protecting yourself for the future as best as you can in this SHIT situation.

He has been taking advantage of YOU, as you have looked after his children full time. How about he starts paying you for the 6 days a week he can't be arsed to be a parent?
