To be in awe of musicians and bemoan my lack of musical talent?

Just watched a Nark Ronson documenrary and am in awe of how multitslented ge is. Likewise I am in awe of anyone who has the confidence ro get on stage and perform.

I love a good music festival but am always left feeling very untalented. I really wish i'd learned an instrument when young and stuck with it.

My dd has an amazing voice and was in a few music productions etc but quit in 2ndary school. So i am in awe of talented musicians who actually stick at it.

Watched that also. He's a fascinating character and
I was quite taken with how humble he is. I am a musician, btw.

I am also in awe of those who can create music. I mean music that people enjoy!

Mark ronson the bloke who did Amy Winehouse first hit?

O don't like him and I can't remember why!

NiceGerbil · 31/07/2021 03:06

If it's the same one he's a producer mainly I think?

Most of his output is covers/ cowritten etc.

Yes he's good at making hits but there are loads of songwriters I would rate - first of genres, new sounds, groundbreaking etc etc

Or just very very good at writing high quality pop.

You can still learn. The ukulele isn't too hard, easy enough to teach yourself. And everyone loves a ukulele! I say go for it!

I can play guitar, but I am in awe of piano players. I wish I had put more effort to learn, but my fingers just won't do what I want Grin

I am with you OP, having tried to learn when younger. I have/had professional musicians in the family so makes it in a way even more galling for me.

Start learning an instrument now, no reason why not. Never to late to start.
I learnt some music as a child, teen but never really cracked it. Started learning piano 1st July and am now progressing well towards grade 1 level. Ive read that if you practice 5 days a week for an hour you can reach grade 5 level in two years.
Yes musical ability is a lot about talent, natural ability - but its also a lot to do with practice practice practice. Learning what you need to know.

Choose an instrument, give it a try. You wont regret at least having a go. Its so much fun realising you can play today what you couldnt last week.

I am in awe of anyone that can play a instrument or sing , I have a very good friend who can play the cello , the violin and bongos ! ( and probably anything else you put in her hands )

I would love to be able to play the sax or guitar or sing , but I am all fingers and thumbs and couldn't carry a note in a bucket !

Steve stevens is one of my favourite guitarist he can play all sorts of different music , here he plays flamenco and the theme to top gun ( about 4 mins into the video ) and even though the recording is not great quality due to it been on a phone the sound is still tremendous

But is probably best known for playing alongside Billy Idol for many years , this is Flesh for Fantasy

( I may of mentioned on just one or two other threads that I really like Billy Idol Wink )

YY to never too late to learn to play!

I tried over lockdown but didn't practice, that's on me.

I think guitar and piano you can get decent tunes out of quite quick!

Sillawithans · 31/07/2021 21:49

I play the piano, in face I was just playing it5 minutes ago. I'm learning Richard Marx, right here waiting. It's no too late!!
