In the midst of indecision about the need for asd official diagnosis i wondered about how this would be answered. Im sincerely interested, im not trying to be contrary.

Who knows? Aren’t we all on the spectrum to some degree?

The only benefit to a diagnosis is you’re protected under the disability act and gain more in the way of adjustments in work or additional help in school.

How could anyone possibly answer this?

coodawoodashooda · 29/07/2021 23:58

No we are not all on the spectrum. But this is what interests me, how we decide whats diverse?

coodawoodashooda · 29/07/2021 23:58

Or why we are?

What does it feel like?

Sometimes it's so painful you want to die.
Sometimes is so much fun you wish the feeling would never end.
Sometimes it's so boring you go to bed early.
Sometimes love over rides everything.

It's constantly different.

I dont know. Im interested to see what is said. I consider myself to be neurotypical but often find life difficult.

I think I'm neurotypical.
I feel weird and constantly not "right" or good enough. If I could have some support to understand who I am and how I relate to the world and people I'd love that. (I had counselling for a long time and it was great but I couldn't afford it long time).

If I didn't think I was neurotypical and I could get support with that to understand me and my world I'd welcome it.

badgerswitharms · 30/07/2021 00:04

*term.
Sounded like some shit pastiche of love you long time

coodawoodashooda · 30/07/2021 00:05

I feel like that too. Thats my point i guess, dont we all feel odd?

OP posts:
WildSwimming101 · 30/07/2021 00:06

Yes. All humans feel odd. It's part of being Human. Life is suffering. There's no way round it. To live is to suffer.

KihoBebiluPute · 30/07/2021 00:08

@BluebellsGreenbells no we aren't "all on the spectrum" - the autism spectrum doesn't refer to a linear scale from neurotypical at one end to very autistic at the other. The spectrum is like a colour wheel of multiple axes of different cognitive, interactive and communicative differences that people on the spectrum have, to varying extents. People who are neurotypical are not on the spectrum.

@coodawoodashooda I am not sure that any answer to that question can be meaningful. No one can compare the experience of being neurotypical with that of not being. With no basis for comparison, any answer would have to be based on stereotypes. Not reality.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/07/2021 00:13

People feel odd for a variety of reasons. I could be shyness, self esteem issues, trauma, childhood issues. There is no one set idea of what is NT or "normal". Nobody can tell you the differences between NT and ASD from a personal perspective because you are either one or the other.

I have no more idea of how different my life would be if I had ASD than I have of what it would be like to be male.
