Genuinely not sure if I'm over reacting. I won't be sending a complaint or anything, but took my DC's to see the new Space Jam film. It's a certificate U.

They have loads of Warner Brothers characters watching a basketball game in the background.
Baring in mind, this is a kids film, I was a bit surprised to see Penny-wise and characters from A Clockwork Orange. Knowing that those films are about, AIBU to think they shouldn't be featured in a kids film?

I know this might sound really 'snowflake' or looking to be offended but for a long long time I've hated and tried to avoid seeing rape esp brutal rape of women in films.

I find it upsets me a bit.

So for me, watching a kids film and suddenly being reminded out of the blue of these films is jarring and just not what I want

How many adults find it really funny to be reminded of the content ? I mean the devils, wouldn't some Christians find it a pretty unsettling reference?

NiceGerbil I don't think that sounds at all 'snowflakey' (hate the term), it's a reasonable observation.

My usually-brave dd aged 9 is utterly terrified of Pennywise (subject of many a nightmare) having been told the gist of the story from a school friend with older siblings- she even gets upset at seeing just the red balloon. To put a horror film character in a kids film is bizarre and desperate- trying to be edgy to keep the adults watching I imagine.

Thanks for the warning though - we can avoid this one then!

Oh that made me have a thought.

For the older children they might well have noticed some of the cameos and want to find out who they were.

From there it's a skip and a jump to precis of the films, clips on YouTube etc etc.

So that sounds like a reason it was not a good idea.

I went to see it with my 9 year old. She was too scared to look at the when Pennywise was on the screen (he could be seen quite a lot of times in the one section of the film) like a pp said, she has heard parts of IT from the playground and I think she was frightened about what else would start happening in the movie.
I think v young children wouldn't notice or really know what Pennywise is about.
Definatly not what I'd expect in a U rated film.

That was meant to say 'too scared to look at the screen'
