AIBU- Work holidays

Sweetchocolatecandy · 28/07/2021 14:35

I submitted a holiday at work over two weeks ago for my wedding in October. I didn’t hear anything so I emailed my manager to chase last week and he didn’t respond (he has sent our team other emails about different things so I know he received it) so I sent another email yesterday explaining my situation, to which again he has not responded again. I have also tried to call him but he has not bothered to return my calls. We are able to check availability before submitting holidays and there’s plenty of availability so I’m not sure why he’s not agreeing, and if there’s a valid reason surely he should be communicating with me? Or am I just being impatient? If it’s relevant I am WFH and it just feels like it’s easier for managers to ignore you rather than dealing with issues.

YANBU. This would really annoy me. I would also not be impressed at not being able to reach a manager on a phone call for two weeks nor get a call back in that timeframe either. Extremely rude.

Do you have someone in HR you can go to? Or can you go over his head? I do this with urgent leave requests, if I need dependency leave etc. If my immediate manager doesn't respond, I go to another manager in the team

Could be there is some bad news coming and he does not want to engage. I would just call the next manager up the line (his boss) and say your manager is not returning your calls what should you do?

I have always made holiday requests verbally and have always had people working for me ask in person as well. Perhaps you need to make another attempt to speak to him, surely you speak to your manager at least once a week anyway?
