Climate change

Despite the government’s claims regarding climate change nothing seems to being. For instance the heating pumps have once again being delayed.
Am I being unreasonable in thinking that they are just paying lip service?

Not everyone hand wrings over it. Just live your life.

I imagine Covid would have taken a priority

Meaningful action on climate change is 100% incompatible with the precious and sacred economic growth.

But grid greening snd transport , the two biggest problems have defined solutions and processing

Yes the new build heating should have been mandated as heat pump not gas ten years ago , and wind power should have been big in the 1990s

But change is happening, covid is a bit of a distraction

continual growth mindset will only be knocked on the head when people stop consuming so much and voting for the parties who defend it to the hilt

I am a firm believer in grass roots. We took on an allotment like many others during the first lockdown. Talking to another plot holder and they said that the site was deserted until recently. Literally 30 local families/ couples have been growing their own food.
Someone also planted a small community garden on a green in the estate.
Noticed more and more litter picking 'events' at least one a month near me and there are posters near my parents house.
DH was going on and on about the allotment and now one of his colleagues has a bed in his backgarden for food.

Lots of fruit trees planted the last 4 or 5 years.

I really do think things are changing but its slow.
What do you do? Anything that can snowball?

I get so upset about climate change but I watch videos about people doing stuff for their local community and it bloody helps. I'm not the only one trying. I'm not the only one changing.

oh! when I had my youngest I used to watch a YouTube in London who went to her local zero waste bulk shop. Now there is one near me. Loads popping up everywhere and lots of transparency and the owners talk to people about setting up more, they help eachother, crowd funding to open more. etc.
Things are being done and things are changing. It is lovely. Not enough by any stretch but enough to give me hope and I am a worrier

We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Avoid single use plastics, sort out our recycling, changed our car for a small efficient engined car, and will probably go electric next time. Then, the news comes on. A train tries to beat a record by driving empty from London to Glasgow. At least 3,000 gallons of diesel would have been used fir that, and they failed to beat the record. Some young lad trying to fly round the world just for a record. Billonaires flying to the edge of space, just for the fun of it. It really makes me wonder why the fuck do we bother.

Pixxie7 · 28/07/2021 19:42

I think most people are doing the basic things like recycling but the government is holding big seminars claiming to be world leaders but are not actually making any major changes that will have a major impact possibly because it will be an unpopular.
