To think that cars are the biggest cause of climate change?

I didn't learn to drive till I was 30 as I was concerned about the effects of cars on global warming. Everyone thought I was mad...however now that climate change is a hot topic i wonder how many people still feel that driving isn't damaging to the planet?
Then there are the car accidents, roads are an eyesore.
I mean I drive as I live in the country but I kind of hate it too.

so you're just replacing one type of vehicle transport with another.

can you fit 50 people in your car? how often do you drive alone, with 3 or 4 empty seats?

I'm with you, OP. I need to drive for work but got to the point where every time I got in the car I felt so sad, guilty and just plain wrong I couldn't do it any more. So I reorganised my life so that I could buy a second hand Leaf.

Point is that to get more people using buses, you need more buses, especially outside the major cities where regular/frequent bus services aren't the norm. Our village (6,000 people, not a hillside hamlet) has only an hourly service to 2 close towns (3/4 miles) and a 2 hourly service to another (5 miles). (Even fewer at evenings and weekends). To get people out of their cars going to those towns, you need a more frequent bus service.

Then instead of 2/3 empty seats in a car, you're going to have a lot more empty seats on the extra buses needed to get some of those car drivers on to the buses.

At the moment, no one with a car would use a bus because of the inconvenience due to journey time, lack of frequency, poor timetabling, not to mention cost.

and unless you put the busses there to deliver a service people won't use them.

when fuel tax is unfrozen that will be interesting - if fuel prices hadn't been frozen then petrol would be £2.50 per litre or £12.00 per gallon
that is going to have an effect eventually on driving private cars

Nah. Still having kids is the worst contributor.
