To ask for your good and bad health habits

Sorry if this has been done before. I’ve developed some bad binge eating habits since lockdown (but in truth I’ve always been greedy with food/a binger) and I’ve put on weight as a result. I’ve been trying and failing to break the habit for a while, but in the meantime I’m trying to be kinder to myself as I do have plenty of “good” habits when it comes to health, which is one of the reasons I’m not quite overweight regardless of the weight gain.

Good habits:
Regular exercise - always have, always will.
Rarely have take aways or ready meals.
Little alcohol (this was much more pre DC but nowadays unless it’s an occasion, it’s usually 1-2 maximum, only on the weekend).
Drink a lot of water every day.
Limited caffeine, 1-2 coffees and teas a day.
No biscuit habit - never bought them other than the rubbish ones I give to DC.
Eat plenty of fruit and veg.
Try and get 10k steps a day and walk where I can - wouldn’t dream of driving to a nearby shop, always walk.

Bad habits:
Crisps. Minimum 1 packet a day, sometimes several. I feel like I can’t go without and tend to buy the “healthier” ones like quavers so will easily have 3 packets.
Binge eating - this is a big one. I’ve been having snack binges at least once a week since WFH and it’s really not good.
Portion size - I’ve always had a big appetite and so can eat a lot more than many people I see. I think because of this I’ve got a messed up view of being full/satisfied.
Fizzy drinks - always diet, but again a lockdown habit that has continued and both DH and I have at least 1-2 large glasses a day.

I can’t think of any more right now.

Please share yours with me…and any tips you might have on overcoming binge eating would also be welcomed!

I should add that I also don't drink enough water or eat enough veg. I'd always been on the higher end of healthy weight but recently became overweight and I know I need to change but I have no motivation.

Good habits:
Track calories everyday on my fitness pal
Portion control

Bad habits:
Drink too much caffeine
Drink too much fizzy (zero calorie drinks but still terrible for me)
Smoke
Sometimes grab an easy option as I’m too lazy to put the work in to make something healthier from scratch.
Could eat my weight in crisps if I let myself but it’s a slippery slope so I can’t even eat one pack as I won’t stop.

Good -
Stopped smoking years ago
Teetotal since having kids, wasn’t a huge drinker before that
Don’t drink fizzy drinks (used to have a huge Diet Coke habit but gave up a few years ago)
Don’t sunbathe

Bad -
Very overweight as a result of snacking rather than proper meals/binge eating/comfort eating
Both kids sleep terribly therefore I sleep terribly
Lots of stress in my life
Don’t look after myself anywhere near as well as I should as kids always prioritised (don’t have anyone to help)
Used to drink lots of water but now often go half the day before realising I haven’t actually stopped and had a glass of water OR I purposefully don’t drink much as using a public toilet with 2 young kids and a pushchair is a pain
Don’t drink much caffeine (1 coffee a day)
Breastfed both kids long term/throughout toddlerhood which has health benefits

Finnyhaddock · 01/09/2021 17:52

Good habits:

  • Regular exercise (I’d go round the twist mentally without it)
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Rarely drink alcohol

Bad habits:

  • My diet is utter shit (I’ve suffered with EDs pretty much my whole life. I go through phases of practically starving myself - which is usually induced by stress, and eating crap)
  • I’m a smoker (Stopped with each pregnancy, but gradually let the odd social cigarette turn into an evening cigarette on my own, and now I’m back to around 10 a day)
  • I never get enough sleep (3 young kids who are all crappy sleepers coupled with working evenings in a pub doesn’t make for a regular sleep schedule)
SlamLikeAGuitar · 01/09/2021 18:37

Ooo I forgot another good one though:
I take exceptional care of my skin!! I’m very very pale, so spd 50+ sunscreen is a must every day, even during the winter. I’m also have a rigid skincare routine that I am very anal about!
