DH and I decided that this year we would start taking it in turns with families for xmas day. So we decided that we would spend xmas day with MIL and boxing day with my folks. Told MIL and she said, well i dont know what im doing, nana isnt doing anything this year, to which DH said well maybe well just do it at home then! She agreed and said that we could all meet up for afternoon tea and a walk. So i got all excited, our first family christmas, just the 3 of us and bump at home on our own, sounds lovely, so after i started planning everything she comes around and says i dont think ive anything to do on xmas day, what are you doing? Ahhhhhhhh!
She is on her own and I know that xmas is a hrad time for her, but we have allready offered to spend the day with her and she turned us down.
AIBU to just want our lovely family christmas without MIL telling me how to cook my dinner and causing arguements DH, which is inevitable!

We have a similar thing,.
I turned down an invite from my sister because I knew MIL would want to spend xmas with dd and would also start going on about nobody wanting her if we didn't invite her.
Now my sister has made other arrangements and MIL has said she's not coming and asked quite casually, 'Will you be having Christmas at your sister's?'

Don't get me started on this subject. A simple invitation of "would you like to come to us for Christmas" got an "oh that's lovely" reply, but nothing else. So now I'm left with every kind of question. Are you coming? When? For how long? Are you staying with us or somewhere else. Bla bla, and so on...... I love my MIL to bits but she drives me mad.

YABU. If she wants to come on xmas day, why not? It is the season of goodwill after all!

I second Reamhar.
Don't.
Get.
Me.
Started.
to avoid exploding, i drift off into my favourite fantasy of choosing the in-laws' nursing home.
It's coming, ah tell thee....one day...i'll be flicking through those brochures......
