Newish ASUS laptop - sound is AWFUL - aibu to ask for tips/equipment recommendations?

Lovely new laptop, works fine in every other way but when streaming the sound is bloody abysmal!

Thin, tinny and almost impossible to hear.

I have an echo dot which I have TRIED to connect on several occasions inc with "help" from Amazon "experts" who thus far have been unable to help me to actually connect it!

It's all very very frustrating.

Can anyone help me either sort the laptop or connect to the echo or recommend additional speakers? This is driving me nuts!

I'd say a big part of the problem is physically the speaker is on the bloody bottom of the laptop I mean I ask you! What idiot comes up with that idea?!

You need to put your Alexa through voice recognition training if you can or use Google assistant. Is it an older model?

I'm just finding I get anxious and tense when I can't make it do what I want it to do when I KNOW It can do that thing cos windows computers were doing that thing 20 years ago!

I was trying to turn an imported excel sheet into a pie chart for something a relative wanted the other day and it just wouldn't work the way it used to!

Got it figured out eventually (with YouTube and googling) but it bugs me when the developers seem to constantly change the processes just for changes sake!

I don't bother with Alexa I just pick up the xbox controller or use Google assistant on my phone.

No it's a fairly new one. I've done the voice recognition thingy.

I think the problem I'm having is I have a very similar voice to a popular voice over artist who does a lot of ads and so when those ads come on again it gets all excited!

I'm at this point now I turn certain ads off before the voiceover kicks in! I can't change my voice!

Ohh don't even get me STARTED on Siri!

If I had an x box (other games consoles are available ) I'd get nothing done!

I'm bad enough as it is and that's just game apps.

Ex got a PlayStation when they first came out and after the first month he threw a hissy fit cos I was thrashing him on every game!

He's still bitching about this nearly 30 years and a divorce later!

I was modding fallout new Vegas the other day. Took all day and none of the instructions were very clear but I got it working first time and I was chuffed to bits!

You can just turn Alexa on and off can't you ? From your tablet or phone on the app?

Yea he's not the brightest and has a very short temper!

He especially hated I beat him at mission impossible as he couldn't even figure out how to use the masks etc

I used to play Storm8 games and then got bored of them (I'd reached Max level and there wasn't much left to do) mainly castle story which is like a Renaissance fayre idea?

Candy crush I got bored of, ditto fishdom.

I still play solitaire and tetris, Reversi and sudoku - they're my easy ones to fall asleep to

Similar to the Storm8 in terms of a narrative/building a world I'm currently playing FarmVille 2 country escape and FarmVille tropic escape

Used to play metropolis which was a bit like sims?

Sims bored me though as found it quite limited.

Sometimes play those ball/balloon busting games? But my eyesight isn't great these days so can be tricky

Ditto pool/billiards type games

Sometimes chess if I'm that way inclined. But prefer Reversi

Keep meaning to learn backgammon but not got around to it yet

Oh god everything from the Skyrim mobile game to cyberpunk survival games. I play a little farmville 3 sometimes. Can't be bothered with sudoku. Used to play alot of hidden images games. Seekers notes has really nice art work and is really relaxing. I mostly just play elder scrolls online on Xbox or new Vegas and Skyrim on my laptop.
