To not get a Pcu - just self isolate at home

Fashio · 25/07/2021 15:39

Last time we did the lot. I’m thinking of it happens again I’d not bother with a pcu if symptoms and a positive lft. I know lft unreliable but if you’re ill too etc.

This would avoid the horror of t and t

Why would that be unreasonable? You’d be taking the same steps to avoid passing it on.

HelloDulling · 25/07/2021 15:43

What do you mean by the horror of t and t?

Fashio · 25/07/2021 15:45

Last time we decided (for various reasons to do with who was at home when etc) that all of us self isolating was ridiculous. T and t is a pretty blunt instrument that doesn’t get this obviously

So if someone was out/away etc or literally didn’t see the ill person for several days there was no need to self isolate.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 25/07/2021 15:49

So like if the person who was away went to sleep somewhere else instead of returning, t and t didn't get this?

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 25/07/2021 15:50

I guess the other issue if you don't PCR is that your contacts from the previous 48 hours won't be notified, and possibly won't take sufficient care.

Hellocatshome · 25/07/2021 15:51

If a person hasn't had contact with the infected person in the 48hrs before the positive test they dont have to isolate. Jess they wanted to come back to live in the same household as the positive person in which case they would.

Fashio · 25/07/2021 15:51

True re t and t. Although say was a work from home type or a er.. hermit 😀

I never knew this.

Regardless everyone who lives in that house needs to isolate. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. But without a PCR you might be isolating needlessly as they can give false positives. And that's a lot for a whole household if there's no need. I would also say if you have symptoms but a negative LFT to still go for the pcr as lft isn't accurate enough for symptomatic people

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 25/07/2021 15:57

I'd PCR to know for sure, for your own curiosity as much as anything. I'd want to know if it's really covid.

4PawsGood · 25/07/2021 15:57

Why do you think you’ll get it if you’ve already had it? It’s very unlikely.

Fashio · 25/07/2021 16:09

I suppose if somebody had already had in the house getting a PCr from somebody else they have to isolate which is nuts, especially with the vaccine

OP posts:
Imnothereforthedrama · 25/07/2021 16:10

I don’t get your post why wouldn’t you ? You wouldn’t know for sure and could be isolating unnecessarily. Also what do you mean horror of t&t at least they will notify contacts . If you mean others unnecessarily being pinged then that’s not your problem.

Imnothereforthedrama · 25/07/2021 16:11

So you want to avoid the whole household isolating ?

You can just notify then yourselves. All test and trace do it take names and numbers from you, and then phone those people. Just phone them yourself.

All well and good u til they need to take time off work. "My mate told me to isolate" doesnt quite work as.well as "I have had official notification from T and T"

MyDcAreMarvel · 25/07/2021 16:29

Your post makes no sense if other household members have been away for 48 hours and don’t t return until the 10 days self isolation is over then T and T won’t tell them to self isolate.

Pingued · 25/07/2021 16:42

You need the code from a positive PCR to put in the app to ping everyone.

I'm sorry I don't understand this bit. Everyone who has been in contact with the person who may or may not have covid needs to isolate. It's the covid that means you isolate not the PCR test.
igelkott2021 · 25/07/2021 17:16

@HelloDulling

What do you mean by the horror of t and t?
Being phoned every day x the number of people in the household and made to listen to the same spiel x times over? Happened to my boss and when she said "yes I know you've already told me" the guy on the other end of the line said" you have to listen to it so I am going to start again".

I have no idea why she didn't just say "you know we're home" and put the phone down. And yet when my mum had to isolate they just sent her a text once a day reminding her to to go out.

igelkott2021 · 25/07/2021 17:17

@Pingued

Only if you have the app.
StrongLegs · 25/07/2021 17:17

I think you really do have to do the PCR test, but I understand how you feel. We have covid again this week (last time was March 2020) and the admin this time is something else.

It didn't help that some of our contacts were on holiday abroad, and tracking them down was like the Crystal Maze.

Fashio · 25/07/2021 17:28

Why did I say pcu? 😃

OP posts:
Notplannedforthis · 25/07/2021 19:50

I would get the PCR. You likely have Covid, especially with symptoms and a positive lateral flow (false positives are much rarer than false negatives) and I see your point that you're isolating anyway and T&T are a pain in the arse.

However, getting the PCRs helps those who are planning the country's response to Covid to plan more effectively. So if many people with mild symptoms in the community don't get tested and the main people getting tested are those who need hospital admission, it makes it falsely look like a higher percentage of those that test positive require hospital admission and various other stats related problems. I appreciate that just your family's stats probably won't have much of an impact, but if a high enough proportion of people had the same idea, it could do.

Fashio · 25/07/2021 20:56

I haven’t got covid.
