Made the trip to m and s yesterday to buy new jeans. Straight replacement for existing. Sienna length short.
Got them home. 28.5 inch inside leg. Both pairs, different colours.
Fgs.
What is the fucking point of that?

I have long legs, measure 34" inside leg. Always used to need an M&S long, even then they often weren't quite long enough. In the last couple of years I've need a standard length as the longs were way too long.

Maybe my legs are shrinking with age? Grin

If yours are, so are mine. Which would explain a lot of things.

I'm 5'6". Used to get standard length until about 10 years ago when they suddenly started trailing on the ground behind me. Switched to short, which was great for a few years, but then they also got too long. Last time I bought anything that was absolutely perfect for me in leg length, it was 'standard length' but 7/8. Which is a fraction over 27 inches.

But the average height used to be 5'4", not 5'7", which they say it is now - I suppose all the incredibly long legged and slender models on their pages, who vary from 5'7" to 5'10" are needed to make the stuff not look like it's wearing them.

Just come back to this. I buy short m and s.
I have measured all my trousers in my drawer. Yes it is pissing with rain and frankly I've nowt else to do.
Magic Jeans size 14 short inside leg 27"
Slim short size 12 26"
Slim 14 short 26"
Berry Cords 14 short 27"
Black cords 14 short 27"

These have been washed and worn multiple times and all bought in the last six months. I see on the website that they have decrees short women to have a 29" inside leg. That makes little sense to me as mens trousers have a 29, 31 or 33 inside leg typically. And men are taller than women.
So, if all these short length trousers I have bought are in fact now the above lengths, have they shrunk? Or is it just a totally random description? And I have been the owner of a pair of short legs for 53 and buying marks trousers for 30 of those. They are all short, not extra short.

I tried on some Sienna jeans not long ago, the standard length were too long for me, I'm 5ft5 with fairly long legs.

Literally look at the size guides online.
They'll be different lengths if they're different styles.
Ankle grazers won't be the same as bootcut jeans!

DroopyClematis · 25/07/2021 18:15

I've always had to by 'short' from M and S but have , in the last couple of years, had to take them up.

The trouble is that if they give an inside leg measurement, there's only one in cm and I can only guess they mean standard length, whatever that may be for that particular length/style.

It is purely a guessing game with them; if they gave actual inseam measurements (and didn't use images of models wearing Long without saying what their particular measurements are - somebody 5 foot 10 wearing a long that comes almost to her ankles or it hides whether she's wearing flats or heels doesn't give enough information to know what the actual measurements of the trousers are in Long, never mind the other lengths.

@NeverDropYourMooncup there's a tab where you can switch to inches. It shows inside leg etc

Not on the individual item descriptions, there isn't.

I know the equivalents of 29", 31" and 33" - what they don't tell you is, for example, whether the actual pair of trousers you are looking at measures the equivalent of 25, 27, 32.45 or 37 and they're assuming you'll know to buy a pair of their high heeled shoes, will have to then spend out on an alteration tailor or will get them delivered only to find that the short fitting makes your legs look like you're slowly dissolving from the foot up.

I think they just sew any old label in. I have 3 pairs of size 14 trousers in the same lenghth and colour except they are all really different.
