Spray deodorant in changing rooms

Fully prepared to be told AIBU.
But I wish spray deodorant was banned in swimming pool changing rooms!!
Hate it when I'm trying to get changed and some inconsiderate arse in the next cubicle empties half a can under each armpit!!
The smell alone is enough to give me a headache and takes an age before I feel I can breathe properly again.
Surely something so obnoxious should be banned in public, what's wrong with a good old roll on or stick deo that doesn't gas out the whole changing area!

I much prefer that than people who don't wear any.

TVWife · 24/07/2021 16:52

YANBU - I react to it the same way that you do

They don't work as well for some people, including me.

If I can go straight home I don't bother with anything, but if I go someplace else /have a busy day ahead it's spray or reek.

Absofriginlutelyexhausted · 24/07/2021 16:59

I hate all aerosols, it's suffocating. I wish they didn't exist. Roll on is just as, if not more, efficient.

Curiosity101 · 24/07/2021 17:10

I agree completely. If people at least got dressed before putting it on that would help as it traps some of the gas/smells.

I've found Mitchum stick deodorant to be the only thing that's particularly effective to me and it way better than any aerosol I've ever tried. I wouldn't be that surprised if aerosols go the way of plastic straws etc in the future.

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 24/07/2021 17:12

As an asthmatic, I agree. It happened when I took DS swimming on Tuesday and takes days to fully recover. My asthma is on the severe end of the scale though.

SheABitSpicyToday · 24/07/2021 17:15

A boy at my school died because of aerosol being sprayed in the changing rooms. They were banned from then on. He had asthma, had a huge attack and died.
It’s completely unnecessary and selfish to use sprays in enclosed spaces with other people when there are perfectly fine alternatives.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 24/07/2021 17:18

Yeah I have a coughing fit if I'm near anyone spraying an aerosol.

Tig33 · 24/07/2021 17:23

At the pool I go to there are signs up asking people not to use aerosols. They say this is due to customers with breathing difficulties. I am not a fan of aerosols anyway and find that a solid stick deodorant is best for swim and gym and less intrusive

My dh was too lazy to take his up to the bathroom yesterday after unpacking the shopping. Sprayed it in the kitchen this morning, I felt like I couldn't breathe through in the living room.

purplesequins · 24/07/2021 17:31

yanbu
same for hairspray and athlete's foot spray.

sets my asthma off

EBearhug · 24/07/2021 17:34

I particularly agree when the changing village is poolside.

Spodge · 24/07/2021 17:57

YANBU - it makes me cough and gag. Mind you, people do worse in changing rooms.

ILoveCrap · 24/07/2021 18:05

YANBU. They stink and catch in my throat. Hopefully, as a PP has mentioned, they will go the way of plastic straws at some point in the near future.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/07/2021 18:08

YANBU - but at least it's semi contained by a cubicle, rather than being in a communal changing space.

Guavafish · 24/07/2021 18:11

If it leads to death … yes. Please can spray outside. Gyms and school need to ban it
