WWYD 3mth Old & family visit via busy motorway service stations

Just interested to hear what approach you would take if you had family visiting you and your new baby from the other side of the country and they inevitably had to use the busiest motorway service stations i.e. M6 & M1 stations. Obviously covid is massively on the rise again, would you go about your normal business as if covid didn't exist or would you take any precautions when they arrived?

@RoseRedRoseBlue oh well makes us equal in our family then. I felt it was reasonable to mask up and use the service stations last year but apparently not.

Don’t worry about the service station OP - it will be far too soon for your relatives to pick up something and pass it on that very day. It’s what your relatives have been doing for the precious few days which is more relevant. For me, making relatives wash their hands and refrain from coughing over the baby would be enough.

The only thing I was anxious about with a very young baby was if someone with a cold sore kissed them - there have been horror stories of babies dying after coming into contact with the herpes virus. (sorry if this increases your anxiety levels if you didn’t know about this one!)

Previous, not precious!

Wow. What a weird response at 14:13:39 Hmm

You can't ask on the internet 'AIBU?' then swear at all those who give any answer other than those you hoped to hear. Apart from you misunderstanding what a troll is, surely you have asked this question to get a good idea of what a random selection of the public think, so you can put your anxiety in perspective?

Seems a bit extreme to me, letting them travel all that way and not letting them hold your baby
Can they not wear masks, wash their hands, be outside in the garden?

This is my thinking too.

I am not sure why you have this irrational fear of someone stopping to use the toilet at a service station. Confused I've had to stop and use them a few times over the last couple of months and they have been busy, but I'm not standing talking to people for 15mins, I'm not in a crowd with people for a couple of hours, I'm not singing or even chatting with anyone. I walk in, use the toilet, wash my hands and walk out. You are very unlikely to catch the virus in such a way. You do need some sustained contact.

But now is pretty different to last summer. You acknowledge they are vaccinated.

Frankly it just seems you want to make a point for the sake of it.

Fine - do that to your relatives if you want to but own why you’re doing it at least

We took our baby into 5 service stations going to and from Cornwall a couple of weeks ago. It didn't enter my head to not take him in to be honest. I think you may be overthinking a bit.

Then again he is 9 months old and has a love of chewing supermarket trolleys at the moment (they get wiped before and after) so maybe my judgement is skewed.
