Should I cancel a holiday due to threadworms?

Last night discovered my little girl had threadworms. Been to the pharmacy this morning and whole family has been treated. Bedding, towels etc. all in a queue for the washing machine.
We are due to go on holiday to a cottage tomorrow with some friends. I know the eggs can live for up to two weeks. Would it be irresponsible to still go? Obviously we would take all the usual precautions- separate towels, stringent hand washing etc.

You cant cancel for worms
Keep up.the hygiene and take your next dose when it's due (2 weeks?)

No just medicate and again in 14 days.

noblegiraffe · 23/07/2021 12:03

You'd still be going to school/work so why not on holiday?

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 23/07/2021 12:04

Just go. No difference to going to school etc. Some Kids get them loads of times.

mindutopia · 23/07/2021 12:17

No, we went on holiday with them last year. The medicine usually works within about 48 hours. You may just want to let the other family know, if they'll be sharing the cottage with you, as they may want to preventatively treat themselves in 2 weeks, just in case. I know I'd be grateful for the heads up.

The eggs can live for up to two weeks inside of your body, but you aren't infectious during this time. If there are no live worms (which there won't be soon as you'd taken the medicine), you won't be able to infect anyone else, though you might get them again in 2 weeks time when the eggs hatch.

No, just take your own towels and sheets and make up the beds with two bottom sheets.

Keep up the hygiene standards and carry on treating them until gone.

You brought back fond memories of being on holiday in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago on my birthday and the first job of the day being to find a pharmacy to get us all medication for the dreaded worms. Luckily excellent English was spoken but I had a little mime prepared just in case!

Fruityfriday · 23/07/2021 12:23

I'd tell your friends though so they can keep up with handwashing

Hallyup6 · 23/07/2021 12:24

No, take some medication and get off. We're a family of 7 and my 11 year old is prone to them. I've only every treated her and nobody else has picked them up. I don't think they spread as easily as you think.

AryaStarkWolf · 23/07/2021 12:24

I wouldn't cancel

grapewine · 23/07/2021 12:26

I'd not cancel but let your friends know.

Lolascolas80 · 23/07/2021 12:33

Thanks for all your advice. I've told our friends and they seem pretty relaxed about the whole thing. It's the first time we've had an outbreak so had a mild panic but you've all reassured me Smile
