2 primary schools, same town, same local authority, in England- year 6 kids.

Is school 1 right or school 2?? My kid is in school 1, friends kid is in school 2. Am I self-isolating my child for no reason now that changes have come in??

school 1 - says class bubbles still in place even after July 19th changes til end of term this week. On Monday sent a Yr 6 class home to self-isolate for 10 days after a kid tested positive.

school 2 - says bubbles still in place, but now a positive kid in class means bubble burst and kids send home BUT ONLY the Covid ++ kid needs to self-isolate. Yr 6 class sent home BUT other kids in the class don't have to self-isolate at all now unless they have symptoms and it's now up to test and trace to identify close contacts of the Covid ++ child and tell them if they need to SI or not.

So, wise ones. Does my kid need to continue to SI or not? She won't be going into school either way.
YANBU - school 1 is correct
YABU - school 2 is correct

sorry I wasn't very clear @sailmeaway . I meant it as @Karwomannghia interpreted! They may as well be at school if they don't have to isolate!

Newrumpus · 22/07/2021 16:33

I don’t understand why the kids have been sent home if not to isolate? If they no longer need to isolate surely they could stay in school?

Serendipity79 · 22/07/2021 16:38

My youngest went back on Tuesday after the whole class were sent home earlier this month to isolate for ten days. My son was sent home on Tuesday and his class were told to isolate. Our school decided to follow the School 1 pattern until today which is the last day of term. Back to no bubbles or distancing in September

MordredsOrrery · 22/07/2021 16:41

Our class bubble collapsed last week - all children had contact with the positive case so all sent to self-isolate.

Siite · 22/07/2021 16:42

It's not an argument. Public Health England decide if there are any, and how many, contacts, based on circumstances others won't necessarily be aware of. If you've been told to self isolate, you ought to self isolate. If another institution makes the decision to close fully or partially to all or some users, whether to minimise contacts, deep clean, whatever, it has no bearing on your child.

It's really difficult, though, when you've been told your child is a close contact and they must isolate, but your child absolutely knows that they never go within a country mile of the child who is positive. One child at our school was home, self-isolating due to a family member +ve test, then went back to school for 1½ hours before being sent home again because the bubble burst, even though they couldn't possibly have been a contact.

Georgieporgie29 · 22/07/2021 18:19

The way I understand it.
Up until 19th full bubble went home - as school 1.
Schools can change to the new criteria from the 19th or continue with the old criteria until the end of the term, their choice.
The new criteria is that only close contacts of the positive case have to isolate.

So it looks like school 1 are continuing with the old criteria until the end of term (which they are allowed to do)
And school 2 should be telling the close contacts to isolate - or letting test and trace know who the close contacts are - as per the new criteria. So school 2 have got it a bit jumbled.

This is only my opinion though (from lots of googling after have a bubble burst last week)

blackcurrantjam · 23/07/2021 23:25

A day later we got Comms from school saying they had received further advice from t and t to 'minimise' contacts till next week but that it was advisory only. If t and t contacted us directly it would become a requirement to SI.

Confused

@sailmeaway ^^

Wannakisstheteacher · 23/07/2021 23:30

Our school is telling the entire class to isolate if one child is positive. I thought that was the correct procedure until mid August?

Hankunamatata · 23/07/2021 23:43

Our school is follow school 1
