to not know where to go?

We love travelling and always go abroad for a summer holiday, this year for obvious reasons we're staying in the UK and I've got no idea where to go. I looked online and so much is booked up already and now the prospect of finding something nice seems overwhelming. There are 3 of us (2 adults and a 10 year old) and we're pretty open minded. Budget is £500 each/week including accommodation and main meals.

Where the hell do I look? Where's good? Shall I just give up and sit in the house going mad forever?

If it needs to be in the school holidays you won't get much for £500 a week I'm afraid

Maybe you could hire a campervan?

Try somewhere that is not a high flier in the summer holiday stakes but potentially close enough to places to do 2 or 3 day trips or train trips out. Maybe Suffolk (trips to the coast, forest, or over into Norfolk), or Ironbridge/Worcestershire way. Tripadvisor sometimes allows bookings through its hotel/self catering menu, or can give you pointers to find the owner's own website. The UK Farmstay site is also quite good as not all of those properties are bookable online so by ringing a few, you might find some that have some free days and could maybe combine a couple of places.

A few promising things on this if you are flexible too, which I would guess may change every few days: www.independentcottages.co.uk/last-minute-cottages/page2
