To think 12 Yr olds can't go anywhere abroad without quarantining?

I'm either misinterpreting totally, or all of the various green list locations essentially have some form of quarantine for age 12 and over, even if it's just while waiting for test results come back (which could be a few days of the holiday). That includes children who are exactly 12 years of age.

That's even when travelling with 2 fully vaccinated adults?

If anybody has seen any destinations where that isn't the case, do please share!

Where are you seeing this? Greece, for example, exempts those who have 2 vaccs or a negative test taken 72/48 hours (depending on PCR or LFT) from quarantine, and that includes all over 12s - so you just need to get tested just before you go. Under 12s are exempt.

PatriciaHolm · 21/07/2021 11:53

That should say 48/72 hours before arrival! So no impact on the holiday.

WoahThereNelly · 21/07/2021 12:01

Isn't Greece flagged for moving to red list?

I think for France, minors are assumed to take on the vaccination status of their parents. May have changed recently but that used to be the position.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2021 12:09

Antigua doesn't require quarantine.

Somewhat inexplicably, it's apparently at the risk of moving to Amber though. They'd had 2 cases on the island in the last fortnight when I checked last week.

Yes you are eight unvaccinated people have to quarantine for 10 days in the UK regardless of where they go. That includes all children over 10. Other countries may have different rules that apply on top. For example some countries require all unvaccinated people over a certain age to quarantine for a period when they arrive too. So a 2 week holiday could easily turn into a month long palava.

If the overseas holiday isn’t required I would suggest waiting until next year. Things will relax internationally as vaccination programmes ramp up.

Ozanj · 21/07/2021 12:12

Yes you are RIGHT

No, that is wrong.

"Quarantine
Children and young people who are under the age of 18 years on the day they arrive in England, and resident in the UK, do not need to quarantine, unless they have been in France.
All under-18s who’ve been in France in the 10 days before they arrive in England must follow the rules set out below in ‘How to quarantine if you are not fully vaccinated’."

Pissinthepottyplease · 21/07/2021 12:30

Have a look on the TUI website’s covid hun. They have document which break testing before leaving and on return by country.

Clymene · 21/07/2021 12:34

Well I'm going with the government change that was announced on 9 July and published on 19 July. I suspect there would have been huge announcement if they had reneged on that decision. And I can find nothing in any media to say they have reversed it.

Both documents I’m reading were updated on the 19th of July so I do think this will involve quarantine of older children through the back door. The rules that apply to entering England apply to all, including UK Citizens and Residents.
Clymene · 21/07/2021 12:44

Your second link doesn't even mention children.

delilahbucket · 21/07/2021 12:54

Under 18's are exempt from quarantine from amber countries as well those fully vaccinated, except for France. Everyone still has to test before they return. This is for England, don't know about anywhere else.
Not that that helps the OP though. We haven't booked anything for the summer because DS13 is not currently able to enter any countries we would like to visit without quarantining upon arrival.

Clymene · 21/07/2021 13:03

Oh I see, you mean quarantining when you arrive on holiday. Surely you just do a PCR test before you leave?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 21/07/2021 13:04

Reading your OP do you mean isolating when you get to your destination? Because if so there are plenty of places you can go without isolating when you get there

sol7 · 21/07/2021 13:08

I think as many European countries are vaccinating their 12-16 year olds they are basing their rules on quarantining on arrival on this basis. Unless they set out separate rules for visitors from the UK then it will impact 12-16 year olds from this country wishing to travel as they don't currently have the option of getting the vaccine. The rules probably vary by country so important to check before booking. Germany for example states that all over 12s must be vaccinated before entering the country.

WoahThereNelly · 21/07/2021 13:16

Yes, Croatia for example looks like they have to take a test on arrival and quarantine until the results come back? Malta doesn't allow over 12s unvaccinated at all. And concerned that Greece, Spain are about to end up Amber Plus like France, meaning quarantine when back in UK.

Are there any green list countries where a 12 year old can just do a pcr test before / whilst there but NOT have to quarantine either in the destination country until results come back, or back home upon arrival? I can't find any.

Even if there are any today things can change very quickly.

baileys6904 · 21/07/2021 13:23

Canary Islands need pcr or vaccines to go out. To come back its pcr and day 2 test. No quarentine for anyone unless unvaccinated adult

baileys6904 · 21/07/2021 13:28

www.skyscanner.net/news/when-can-i-travel-to-spain

From May, travellers do not need to quarantine for arrival in spain

PatriciaHolm · 21/07/2021 13:32
Doesn’t say anything about that here @Clymene

www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england#fully-vaccinated-under-the-uk-vaccination-programme

Or here

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england
The top document explicitly says that

"Fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme
These amber list rules only apply if you are either:

 • fully vaccinated in the UK or under the UK vaccine programme overseas
 • participating or have participated in a formally approved clinical trial of a coronavirus vaccine in the UK
 • ordinarily resident in the UK and under the age of 18 at the time you arrive"

These amber list rules for arrival here are

"You must take a COVID-19 PCR test on or before day 2 after you arrive. Children aged 4 and under do not need to take this test.

You do not need to quarantine unless the day 2 test result is positive."

UK residents under the age of 18 are treated the same as fully vaccinated adults for the purposes of quarantine on return from Amber countries - they do not need to quarantine unless their day 2 test is positive.

TimeForLunch · 21/07/2021 13:34

I've just come back from Spain with a teenager and an under 12 year old. The only difference forthe teenager is that they had to have a pcr within 48 hours of arrival in Spain. Returning, us vaccinated adults and the teen just had to do a rapid antigen test 72 hours prior to flying and then, now back in the UK, all of us have to do the day 2 and day 8 pcr (we arrived back just before then 19th, otherwise I believe we would not have to do the day 8 test).

No quarantining required for any of us entering Spain. We are all quarantining now as we arrived before the 19th.

Caspianberg · 21/07/2021 13:41

Many countries have 12-18 year olds travel under parents vaccination status.

Ie where I am if you the parent is fully vaccinated, then 12 year old just needs pcr test within 72 hrs ( and so do all adults regardless of vaccinated). So family with 2 vaccinated parents, 12 year old and 4 year old would just have to get pcr tests for x2 adults and 12 year old. Under 6 no test needed so 4 year old wouldn’t need anything. If parents weren’t vaccinated they would have to quarantine and then so would 12 year old

SoupDragon · 21/07/2021 16:01

Are you only after Europe?
