To think that there are some things that just shouldn’t be sold on Facebook marketplace...

...or at all for that matter!

Casually browsing through marketplace/local selling groups for some second hand baby stuff and so far I have seen:

  • A freezer drawer full of meat bagged in freezer bags with no dates on. Person wants £30 for it because they are moving house and don’t want to take it.
  • Opened, half used make-up.
  • This cake (pictured) that terrified the hell out of me.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for reducing waste or making a bit of extra cash through a “side hustle” but there are some things that just make me go “yuck!”.

Ready to be told that yes IABVU!

Hahaha. But someone might want a dogpig cake?!

TallFriendlyGinger · 20/07/2021 11:09

Haha terrifying cake! Yeah so many people on fb marketplace selling food etc as a side hustle but you have no idea what their food hygiene rating is, what they're putting in it, it's not regulated at all.

Lindy2 · 20/07/2021 11:10

Is that some kind of weird dog/pig hybrid on that cake? Confused

I particularly like the second hand mattress sales - especially those with the unidentified grim stains on them. I guess some people will try anything to try and dispose of what is essentially rubbish.

HopeWish · 20/07/2021 11:11

@Lindy2

Tell me about it!

Last week I saw someone selling a sofa as “pristine condition” when there was an enormous stain across it!

I love the 'needs a clean'. So bloody clean it before you put it on then you manky person. It's usually filthier than the hobs of hell too.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/07/2021 11:27

People selling mirrors is a great facebook group btw😁

On a serious note I am incredibly concerned about the amount of cooked food for sale in there when it's clear many have no hygiene cert and food registration...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/07/2021 11:28

Apparently it's just juice

If you don't have a Labrador/boar cross with excessive bloating, can you even call yourself a dog lover?

^Marketplace is full of people selling food items and not mentioning food hygiene certificates etc

Adviceneeded21 · 20/07/2021 11:45

A lot of the food ones on my local fb pages too, makes you think who's actually buying food off any Tom, dick or Harry.

HopeWish · 20/07/2021 11:59

Agreed with the food!

Something I’ve seen a lot of lately is home made cookies/brownies/chocolate wrapped up in cellophane with a naff bookmark or similar as a “thank you, teacher” gift.

They are usually extortionately priced for what you get, and as a teacher myself I never eat home made food given to me by children. I’d imagine other teachers are the same!
