Lady of Facebook marketplace crashed into my car?

fugginhell · 19/07/2021 22:01

Sold something on Facebook yesterday, when I was speaking to the lady I noticed her car rolling into mine.

At first I wasn't to bothered as it's not bad but I'm thinking it's only going to devalue my car if I don't get it done.

She said she doesn't want to claim of her insurance but I've sent her two quotes roughly around the same and she's asking for more quotes. She didn't realise it was going to cost so much (£200) her words.

I feel bad but it's not my fault AIBU?

she sounds a bit of a cf, sob story ? Only now does that appear. you pay for the damage and she may deny any knowledge of it happening. Contact insurance, that's what you pay them for to sort these things out.

LakeShoreD · 20/07/2021 12:29

Stop engaging with her silly games and sob stories. If she was going to pay for the repair then she would have already given you the money.
Contact your insurer, give them the details and block her.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/07/2021 12:29

No how can we check?

You don't need to worry about this. You have her reg number and you have her contact details. Just give them to your insurer and let them get on with what you pay them for.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 20/07/2021 12:33

Hmmm, I’m starting to doubt she’s insured to drive the car.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/07/2021 12:36

Might also be worth running the reg plate through Gov.uk to see if its taxes and MOTd.

If you go thru insurance and she admits it it will still affect your premiums for next 5 years...even with protected no claims. mine went up by £30 a year for 5 years. So will cost maybe £150 in increased premiums.

Thats if she admits it, if she denies everything and you have no evidence then you'll end up paying your excess and have premium increase on top. Will cost more than £200.

Your best bet is to get cash off her. Have you tried t cutting it? I'm struggling to see the photo well but it doesn't look bad.

Exactly what I said upthread. For this repair going through insurance would cost a lot more than the £150/£200 repair.
TooMuchPaper · 20/07/2021 12:42

Contact the police. If she is not insured then she has bigger problems than just bumping into your car.

yellowsubmarines · 20/07/2021 12:54

I agree with pp. Stop messing about with this woman. You've given her two or three chances now to pay a quoted price or provide insurance details. I would phone your insurance and give them her details that you know (car reg, make, her name, etc) and let the insurance sort it. If she's not insured then it will all come out and she'll have bigger problems to deal with.

SomeNameorOther · 20/07/2021 12:55

Let your insurers deal with her.

caughtinanet · 20/07/2021 12:56

@fugginhell

No how can we check? She was saying it's her husbands insurance not sure if she meant she's not insured or whether she's a named driver.
You don't need to be doing that, that's what you pay your insurance for. One final chance to stump up the cash then you let the insurer take over
CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/07/2021 12:58

Stop mithering.

Call your insures now and report it.

People like her are the reason we have insurance in the first place.

DixonD · 20/07/2021 13:01

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 20/07/2021 13:01

End this now. Call the insurance. If they get nowhere by the end of the week ring the police.

Fucking ‘real problems’ we all have real problems - it doesn’t give you an excuse to run out on a hit and run.

whynotwhatknot · 20/07/2021 13:01

looks more than a scratch is that a dent aswell-200 sounds reasonable to me

Roselilly36 · 20/07/2021 13:08

Go through insurance, it’s already getting messy.

ihtwsf · 20/07/2021 13:10

Can't really tell from the photo what the damage is.
But don't mess around - just report it to your insurance straightaway and let them deal with it.
I would never mess around getting quotes etc for some random person like this who may or may not pay up and is already claiming you are bullying her.
Her situation is completely irrelevant. If she is driving a car it needs to be insured. If she's not insured or was driving on her husband's and shouldn't have been then that's her problem. Do not listen to any sob stories.

An elderly man drove into my car a few years ago and I called the police out to the scene because he wasn't cooperating with giving insurance details. Complicated story I won't go into but the upshot was that he had done something illegal regarding driving licence/insurance (I'm in another country).
His wife then started ringing me up screaming at me not to go through the insurance as they'd pay outright (it cost €1000). If we went through insurance he'd lose his licence etcetc. Poor him and so on and so forth. I blocked her and just let the insurance handle it.
Not my problem and the circumstances of how he pranged my car would suggest he wasn't safe to be driving anyway. Could have been a child he ran into.

Any car accidents with strangers, however minor, should always go through insurance. Family members or very good friends could sort it out themselves but not "random lady of facebook marketplace"

EL8888 · 20/07/2021 13:12

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz this. You have done more than enough with getting 2 quotes. She needs to cough up

Bullied?! Why do people bandy that around when they are told something they don’t like. So what if she’s a carer

Igloo71 · 20/07/2021 13:17

Someone went into the back of my car recently. She also asked to keep it outside of the insurance companies and asked me to get two quotes. Errrr no love, I need a car for work and the school run and quite frankly why should I pick up all the inconvenience for your mistake?
Just go through insurance OP! Plus I started the process with my own insurer, then her insurer called me and offered me £200 cash compensation and a hire car to go through them instead, which I felt was a very reasonable offer.

The car might be insured.

That's not the same as her being insured to drive it.

Agree with everyone else, this is the reason you have insurance, just call them and put it in their hands to sort out.

LiveatCityHall · 20/07/2021 13:18

About 2 years ago, someone drove through the village I worked in and scraped along the side of my parked car with their massive 4x4. She wanted to deal with it privately because it was her husband's car but I point blank refused. I didn't know her or her husband and how was I to know when the damage would be paid for? I pay for insurance for a reason so I called my insurance company and ignored her pleading. It got sorted within a week.

LiveatCityHall · 20/07/2021 13:20

it's also worth noting that my insurance company told me that you don't need the other party's insurance details, all you need is the registration number of their car. Your insurers will trace the other company through the reg number.

Igloo71 · 20/07/2021 13:23

Yes, this happened with me when the lady was stalling for me. Direct Line got her insurer as we talked on the phone

Fiddliestofsticks · 20/07/2021 13:25

Just call your insurer and give them her reg plate and name. Let them sort it out.

You gave her a chance, but now she has brought out a son story and used the word "bullied". She's shown you she will he difficult and play the victim. Stop contacting her, don't say anything else. Then she cannot claim that you've harassed her. Just call up your insurer.

maddening · 20/07/2021 13:25

Is it just scratches? If so have you tried chips away? They are probably around £150.
