Holiday entitlement

AIBU To think this is just not fair?

Basically we cannot have a family holiday this year because my DH has been told that he must take his holidays just two days at a time and cannot have a whole week in one go, let alone two weeks.

Our DC are 8 and 10 and I feel annoyed that the only alternative is for me to take them away by myself. I have no issue doing this, but fgs we are supposed to be a family.

Reason is lack of back up staff and no one who can do his role (hospitality) but is this even legal?

Does he have two days together off a week, like Monday-Tuesday? Just tag two days leave onto that?

Etulosba · 19/07/2021 21:16

I applied for a job years ago with the same batshit leave policy. Luckily it came up in the interview. I ended the interview there and then.

It is legal but you need to check his contract as well.

Really shit but they can do it. I worked for Waitrose when I was at uni. They used to make us book our holidays for the year in advance. It was really shitty for me and definitely had an impact on seeing my family. As I worked weekends so need to take leave to see them. I really feel for you.

@kowari

He doesn't know when his days off are going to be until the week before and 9/10 times they get changed. He isn't allowed to tag annual leave days onto days off as his boss was very clear that he cannot be away from work longer than two days at a time. It's 💩

Just here to offer sympathy for never being able to plan anything, if he can’t have leave and only gets shifts at such short notice. I hope you can get some days out together at least over the school holidays. He should maybe see if being this accommodating this year under the circumstances would allow an actual holiday next year and then stand firm that it’s booked? Or look for a new job and go in with the understanding that he has pre booked leave, make a couple of things up!

That’s not good. Given the shortage of skilled hospitality and catering staff, I would suck it up for now and do some days out etc plus look for another job.
