Keep feeding Ice Lollies & Jelly - Help

Hi there,

Please can someone kindly guide me. My daughter is 16 months, always has been a fussy eater and has dairy, egg, soya and melon allergies. Saying that, over the last week she has been accepting to try new foods and is enjoying food a bit more therefore eating foods I give her. however since the heatwave has started, since yesterday she has not been eating properly, but will happily have ice lolly's, fruit smoothies and jelly.

Should I be concerned and would it be bad for her to just continue having these and hope that once the weather has cooled down she will be back to eating 'normal' food?

Please help, I worry so much. Thank you

@Confiscatedpopit

I’m a firm believer in eating what you fancy. It’s warm and as an adult my appetite has gone in this weather, keep giving her whatever she wants in this! She’ll be fine.
Cor, that’s bad advice.

I wouldn't worry in short term, lots of people aren't hungry in the heat. Keep her hydrated, she'll go back to normal soon. I doubt we'll be tropical for long.

Smoothies you can work with, you can put all kinds of nutritious stuff in!

@ozanj So the two lollys would replace his meals I assume?

@chesirecat99 have you got a link you can send me?

Sliced cucumber?

greatestdancer · 19/07/2021 16:48

I wouldn’t worry too much in this heat. But as a PP said a good idea if to make the ice lollies yourself.

I’d not realised how tiny your child is OP. You have a child with multiple food allergies, on the second centile, eating a very limited diet even at the best of times, that’s now barely eating anything. Are you getting any medical advice/input - because I’d be asking my GP or allergy team for some advice or a referral to a dietitian. Yes, calories are important for a fussy child and sometimes you have to prioritise getting any food into them, but just blended fruit and water (pretty much all that’s in those foods) is not really going to cut it.

I’m not unsympathetic (I have a child with allergies who is also very fussy due to autism and their diet is by no means ideal) but I actually think this needs proper advice not a lot of people suggesting a load of dairy based foods your child can’t eat!

This is the one but it has milk protein:

You may have to ask a pharmacist or search online for meal replacement shakes at places like Boots or Holland & Barrett. Alternatively, you could use baby/follow on milk.

Most supermarkets have "free from" ice cream:

Or make your own, this avocado and coconut no churn ice cream sounds delicious and healthy:

Blancmange made with whatever dairy replacement you use would be more nutritious than jelly.
