To email chasing up a formal offer of employment?

Sodapopandritalin · 19/07/2021 12:54

Just that really 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had an interview on 14/07, Heard back that I'd got the job on 15/07, Negotiation of salary took place and I heard back Friday to say they were happy to offer me a salary of X amount.

They said they'd send over relevant documents and to have a nice weekend.

I haven't heard anything. I know it's only Monday lunchtime, Am I being unreasonable to chase this? And how would you do so?

Thank you!

I wouldn't chase today. Presumably noone did the docs on Friday so it would be on the list to do today.

If nothing by lunchtime tomorrow I would email to politely enquire as to when you should expect them.

HilaryBriss · 19/07/2021 12:57

If you last spoke to them on Friday then yes, I think you should wait a day or so before chasing them.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 19/07/2021 12:57

If you haven’t received it by tomorrow close of business I’d chase it up. Today doesn’t come across as keen to me but pushy.
Also if it’s coming from HR it can often take a couple of days

Thedogscollar · 19/07/2021 12:58

I'd give it till tomorrow. Are they sending the relevant documents by post or email?
They are probably preparing them now.
Hopefully you will receive them tomorrow.

intheheights · 19/07/2021 13:00

Congrats! Definitely don't chase today. I would chase if you haven't heard back by Tuesday afternoon.

girlmom21 · 19/07/2021 13:01

I'd personally wait until Wednesday

Jangle33 · 19/07/2021 13:02

Yes definitely don’t chase! When do you have expected them to do them?

JackGrealishIsMyNewManCrush · 19/07/2021 13:03

WAY too soon. Give it a few more days at least!

Congratulations by the way. Smile

jevoudrais · 19/07/2021 13:05

Gosh I'd give them til Friday and send an email then.

KarlUrbansWife · 19/07/2021 13:10

Do you need to resign from a job and work notice? If so I'd give them a nudge today and ask when you can expect to receive it so you can plan when you can resign.

What type of business is it? Large (and some medium) will have a recruiter/team of recruiters. If that's the case there's really no reason why you shouldn't expect it within 24 working hours. Contracts go to the top of the priority list for me (I lead a large in house recruitment team).

leakymcleakleak · 19/07/2021 13:13

I would 100% wait till Wednesday. If I'd agreed to hire someone on Friday and they emailed my Monday lunchtime I'd take it as them being critical I wasn't making them my priority and I'd wonder if I'd made the right call.

Have they done reference checks? Generally we'd be happy to negotiate terms if some were outstanding but not to issue a contract, and sometimes people can take a while getting back. Also people may be on holiday this time of year. If you've agreed a start date and need to give notice soon to meet it, maybe you could email tomorrow asking for an expected time but I can't imagine there are many people who would take Kindly to an email basically 5 working hours after you last spoke to them.

PrincessMyshkin · 19/07/2021 13:18

Give them a few days. I would be irritated by someone chasing the next working day. Congrats though!!

GettingItOutThere · 19/07/2021 13:20

wednesday lunch!

Today and tomorrow just seems pushy

user1473878824 · 19/07/2021 13:22

Another vote for Wednesday afternoon

user27424799642256 · 19/07/2021 13:32

There have been zero clear working days since that conversation. So to chase you're effectively saying, "why haven't you sent me the documents we talked about yesterday?" .

Don't do that. Give them a chance before you follow up.

pinkcircustop · 19/07/2021 13:33

YABU and need to give them time. Give it a few days or you’ll look difficult.

Sparklesocks · 19/07/2021 13:33

It’s too soon. Also Monday mornings are usually busy in many workplaces so chances are they’re working through their to do lists

It's healthcare, which is usually pretty quick! I also do recruitment but most of ours is done right away but it doesn't have to go to HR etc as I do it. I will wait till tomorrow afternoon and give them a friendly nudge, as my notice period is 6 weeks

Thank you all for your advice, I shall wait 😂 Can you tell I can't wait to put my notice in 😂

Good lord of course it is too soon so chase them up. I would actually be quite worried if an applicant followed up this quickly! I wouldn’t do anything until the end of the week.

newnortherner111 · 19/07/2021 14:20

I'd suggest when you do contact a phone call (some people are very slow at reading emails). Congratulations on the new job.

Ginmakesitallok · 19/07/2021 15:10

My experience of healthcare hr is that it is NEVER quick, and its slower at the moment because of covid pressures. Give them until the end of the week at least.

JackGrealishIsMyNewManCrush · 20/07/2021 12:26

Anything yet @Sodapopandritalin ??? Grin

I agree with a pp though that it can take AGES with government based jobs - healthcare, land registry, housing, tax office, DWP, etc... When you apply for a job with anything like that, it takes AGES for a response!
