Nursery school teacher gifts

Dc is about to finish nursery school, he will move into reception in the same school and one of his teachers will be moving to reception too.
I am considering end of term presents, but I am inexperienced and need advice!

There are 2 possibly 3 teachers, and at least 3 TAs ds mentions my name. They have all been amazing this year. Kind, helpful, inspiring, going above and beyond to make nursery children happy and comfortable in a horrible year to begin school.

Who do I get something for? Can I do a shared present like biscuits/chocolates/cake? I don't know exactly how many there are, and definitely don't want to offend or dismiss someone's contribution by missing them out.

Aibu to ask wwyd?

Yes of course you can do whatever you like. A shared gift sounds like a good idea. If you are giving it on the last day then biscuits better than cake as they can save it until next year. Or you could just take cake tomorrow.

Following with interest as I have also been thinking about what to do..... lost! I have two boys in diff nursery classes and would be around 8 teachers to buy for, so like you I am thinking shared gift.

Octopuscake · 18/07/2021 20:03

do you have a parents group? We always just club together.

Thanks for the replies. What are people's thoughts on home made biscuits/cake? I'm a good baker but would understand if others didn't fancy eating things from an unknown kitchen.

We don't, but will probably do this from next year. Great idea.

At my nursery we would put all the boxes of chocolates in the office and take one home each. Chocolates were always the winner. I also always loved a nice card, especially if the child had drawn a picture or tried to write a few words inside - I still have them all!

I would definitely eat home made biscuits/cakes and think it’s a lovely present, but I know some people dislike them, so I would stick with something shop bought.

I'm going to do shared present for my sons nursery. He's moving from nursery room to preschool. Probably a big box of chocs or fancy biscuits.

Thanks @Kanaloa for the insider info

I got my now DS8 key workers a rocket book notepad, think it was around £15-20.

They come with a special pilot pen (you can also buy them cheaply on the internet) they are smart note pads, you take a photo of the page and it will send it to your desired location email/drop box etc, and when you fill the book up you microwave it and it clears the pages!

I trained as a nursery worker and you have to make so so many observations per child per week I thought a naice interactive notepad would be really appreciated!

We also got another worker (someone he had a special bond with) who taught woodwork a woodwork belt, personalised with a little positive slogan he would say to the kids, from Etsy I think that was also only £15 and he was moved to tears.

I haven’t heard from any parent in my nursery class about a shared gift, barely know most of them so same boat, need a gift for about 6 who have been great over this last year. We’ve found a cardboard box and we’ve turned it into a lucky dip box, so there is 2 bottles of wine, a few sweet packets, a few nice handcreams, stuff like that. We’ve added shredded paper to hide them. My daughter has decorated the box.

I have accidentally spent more than I meant to though, as is the way when you start with an idea!

School have binned anything not sealed due to covid risk.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 18/07/2021 20:58

My school aren’t binning anything non sealed. All gifts and especially cards are always welcome and appreciated (but honestly not expected!). We had a homemade batch of brownies from a parent in our staff room last week and they were very well received by all! Plants, pens and wine are also good gifts!

I've worked in a nursery and things like boxes of biscuits that were everyone were kept and divided up equally so that each staff member would get 2 or 3 things to take home, over and above individual gifts. At school what I used to do was go early so beginning of December hand in jar of coffee, teabags, fruit tea and a couple of tins of Christmassy biscuits for the staff room. Then month before Summer hols something similar
