to think that if your child gets one of the limited places on an after-school club, you should ensure that he/she actually attends

one of dd1's friends always signs up for after school clubs and then after a few sessions stops going to them. Really irritates me, as places are limited and others might have missed out. AIBU to think that the parents should tell her she either keeps going or can't sign up for any more clubs?

Depends if she tells the ASC that she has stopped going or not. I pay a fortune for ours and I have to give 4 weeks notice if she quits. So for example, if she is invited to a friend's house for tea, I tell them she is not going but I still have to pay. Now I know full well that they then take on another child on the waiting list, which means they get 2 payments for one session.

I doubt that the ASC would keep her place if she kept missing without informing them. I would check as to whether they know or not.

Sorry I wasn't very clear there

It's not a childcare thing, it's extra activities after school, provided by the teachers.

So no payment.

Ah. Then out of order, completely. Teachers should ask if she wants to continue. Demand that they do so as you have a lo waiting for a place.

yanbu - it is both greedy and rude to grab a limited place at an ASC and then not go to it.

Probably not much you can do about it though.
