to love Christmas cards?

I love writing them.

I love it when there's a neat pile of them, all stamped and addressed, ready for the post.

I love receiving them, putting them up, going "ooh, there's a fashion for round/tiny/glittery () cards this year, how very interesting" to DH, then after Christmas, I love sitting and snipping them up into gift tags that go in the Christmas box for next year's presents.

hunkermunker you are some woman i just slap received cards up on a string (usually as a child is hanging off my leg and i am trying to shake them off) sometimes i dont even really look who has sent them

def def def pay very little attention to what the cards look like [even bigger blush]

sort of kidding

zookeeper · 25/11/2007 22:26

I'm not being devil's advocate here but I actively dislike them. It's everything about them, the waste , the clutter, the expense and the "how are you"notes from people you haven't seen for years and who you won't hear from again until next year.

I also feel iritated when people I see every day of my life send me them.

I especially hate the Round robins which are excruciating and (horror) the photos of the sender's children in christmas gear. Yuk

Bah humbug

so, to the OP, yabu

southeastastra · 25/11/2007 22:28

nice don't send them until dec 10th though thanks

funnypeculiar · 25/11/2007 22:29

oh, yes, love em, love em.
Although got our first one early November this year, which was a bit keen even for me

I love the ideea that at least once a year you think about eveeryone who you think it lovely but just don't see any more - even if it is just to write 'we really MUST meet up soon' at the bottom of their card....

TINSELTOESmumofDJ · 25/11/2007 22:30

aw i quite like the kids on the front ones unless its very twee theyre the only cards i actually do sometimes glance at!

TINSELTOESmumofDJ · 25/11/2007 22:31

the presssure is horrible though isnt it wto be perfect

maybe ill hire a babysitter and we can go out and she can write all the cards

genius!

SantaBeClausImWorthIt · 25/11/2007 22:33

Love them. Even if I don't enjoy writing them, I love receiving them. I even like the round robins, if it gives me news about people I haven't seen for a long time. The house always looks really bare when we take them down.

hunkermunker · 25/11/2007 23:22

I'm wondering about writing a round robin this year.

Nah, cba...

I love them too - love the fact that once it gets to December you think when the post arrives "ooohh, that might be Christmas cards" instead of "Oh, that's probably bills/junk mail/etc".

I print out pics of the boys and put them in some of the cards I send - only to people who'll be remotely interested though

Must dig through and get some nice ones from this year!

SoMuchToBits · 25/11/2007 23:29

I have some that my ds designed at school (fundraising scheme for the school). They feature, errmm, festive lifeboats (sorry, that is ds's current craze!)

paulaplumpbottom · 25/11/2007 23:30

I love them to. Giving and recieving. Whats nicer than getting piles of cards every day in December from people you rarely get to see. Its a great way to catch up quickly.

SoMuchToBits · 25/11/2007 23:31

Ah, hunker, I also send a photo to people I think might like one, but it is of the whole family (DH, Ds and me) as I get fed up with only receiving pictures of people's children, but not themselves.

hunkermunker · 25/11/2007 23:33

I figure why spoil a good photo by putting DH and me in it

LOL at festive lifeboats - that's SO sweet!

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 25/11/2007 23:36

Ah, but hunker it gives everyone a good chance to say "Oh, look at SoMuch, hasn't her hair gone grey" etc, etc, lol!

Festive lifeboats are great, but we are overdosing a bit on lifeboats in our house!!! Ds is obsessed!

eidsvold · 26/11/2007 06:41

i'm with you hunker - love sending them, love getting them and catching up with people and what has been happening.

I too snip them for next year or if not able - put them in the box for recycling that we have at the post office.

Have a couple of friend who also send really unusual (in a nice way) cards and I look forward each year to see what they will send.

TINSELTOESmumofDJ · 26/11/2007 08:04

am i being unreasonable to feel intimidated by all you lovely grateful christmas card givers and receivers ?

ja9 · 26/11/2007 08:10

oh hunkermunker i'm with you!

zookeeper would love my cards this year - photo of ds and dd in a snowflake frame that dh got from a freebie with a photo mag. Have also put together a wee round robin for the first time! But both of these only being sent to folks we don't see ( distant family and the like - and i'm sure it will make their day to receive it!)
