Anyone else just sick to death of hayfever

June and July every year is the same. People think it’s just a mild irritation, but it’s debilitating yet doesn’t warrant being absent from work.
Even strong tablets do nothing for me. My nose is full of burst blood vessels, and it’s either completely blocked or running like crazy.

10 violent and loud sneezes in a row.
It makes me very bloated too for some reason. Face is all red and puffy, don’t want to be seen in public by anyone I know.
I have quite a severe case, I’ve had this since the start of June and it’s still bothering me now.
Is there any sort of miracle out there?
It affects my sleep, work, socialising etc. It sounds dramatic but I can’t cope with it anymore.

What are you taking? The GP can prescribe stronger stuff than you can buy over the counter - I've had avamys nasal spray on prescription this year that has been brilliant, and she told me the one a day hayfever pills can actually be taken three times, which can make all the difference (two makes a difference to me)

@MissChanandlerBong22

Not me, but my DH. He suffers terribly and it’s genuinely debilitating.

I didn’t realise a GP could help. Ours has a notice on their website basically saying don’t call us about hayfever, go and see a pharmacist. He just use Piriton and Beconase but they don’t cut it.

Some have said this but don't accept it. Ask for fexofenadine 180mg. Much better than the over the counter stuff.

Also vicks since soother I can't recommend enough. That's just in shops etc and if your nose is blocked lay down and squirt.

I've been bedridden before and had to leave work, its horrendous.

I can't recommend fexofenadine enough.

I suffer terrible allergies (unknown and come out in huge hives randomly), I also have hay fever.

These are prescription tablets but I take 120mg a day and my hayfever is fine from about 5 minutes after I take the tablet.

wishawish91 · 17/07/2021 08:34

I meant to our 120mg a day (but can take up to 8 of these if I start to get a huge swelling, this was under the consultants advice though!)

Hay fever is just hideous, I suffer really badly every year from May to sept. I even get Pompholyx (a form of eczema on my fingers) which is always triggered by hayfever, makes me want to chew my fingers off!

It is bad this year Angry

I use Fexofenadine (tablets) and Nasonex (nasal spray) from the doctor. I find the tablets are usually enough to keep symptoms at bay but this week I’ve had to use the spray too.

My top tip (given to me by my doctor years ago and which I have absolutely found to work) is to take the tablets/nasal spray last thing at night. Previously I’d been taking them in the morning but as it takes time for them to kick in, I’ve found taking them before I go to bed really helps much better the next day.

For some reason I took mine last night and was fine this morning. I started feeling snotty again around about 8:30pm but it was lovely being able to wake up and not have to use half a roll of toilet paper before I'd even walked out the door to go to work this morning. Think I'll do the same again tonight.

It's shit, sympathies.

I've noticed that verges and hedges don't seem to be cut much these days and I'm sure that's why mine is so bad.

QueefofSheena · 18/07/2021 00:40

I only usually suffer if it’s particularly bad but this year has been awful. The pollution levels must be awful here too today as I was a bit wheezy when I went outside, it has to be really high for that to happen.
