To be losing the plot over thrips

The bastard things do my head in! Four days this weeks have seen the evil gits invading my kitchen - covering walls, cupboards, oven, fridge.

I know they’re harmless, but they are seriously doing my head in.

Anyone else suffering with them at the moment?

Oh, and to top it off, I don’t think it will be too long until the flying ants emerge from the lairs. I love summer, apart from these two pests.

@PickleAF - excellent news. I shall get my backside to the shop tomorrow for vinegar. Am assuming it was white vinegar?

Fucking hell they have been driving me INSANE for the last two days. (Disclaimer- I’m a bit short fused at the moment anyway as had a bereavement and planning the funeral, and then my dh got Covid so he’s been reclining on the sofa watching golf, while the three isolating DCs rampage around the house and garden looking for trouble/snacks/arguments.)
I lost track of my thoughts and went on a rant so apologies, but the itchy black bugs are tipping me over the edge! Poor ds3 had them in his ears and stuck to his sun cream earlier and in his nappy. I don’t recall them being so awful other years.

They're known as thunder flies where I come from.
I used to live in the Fens, backing on to fields with grain crops.
They got everywhere, including inside picture frames and laptop screens! I used to be able to sweep a couple of tablespoons-full of them off my window sills every day when it was harvest season.
At the most, they'll be gone in a fortnight.

Yes I used white! I think brown would have ruined my walls even more than the thrips!!ConfusedGrin

They’re also making my fire alarm do a random beep every so often

OH grew basil in the greenhouse last year proudly brought in a beautiful specimen. Within days every plant in the kitchen was ruined the windows, walls covered in them. God it was a mess.

@EllebellyBeeblebrox - oh, am so sorry re your bereavement. And your poor son - in ears, nappy etc. And gobsmacked that they’ve invaded your fire alarm.

I hope they bugger off soon for you.

@PickleAF. - thanks for clarifying. I’ve never used vinegar as a cleaning solution before. Hopefully I won’t be craving fish and chips if I use this method!

I’ve never been to the fens, but it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to visit - am rethinking this now!

I once had a large fly somehow get into the screen of my wall-mounted TV. It was there for a while, but must have got out somehow (as I don’t have a dead fly residing at the bottom of the screen)

White oil (or any water soluble oil so maybe something nice smelling like Lavender or lemon) well diluted with water in a spray bottle.

The oil covers their spiracles so they smother and die.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 18/07/2021 04:28

Or Fly screens for your windows?
