To ask if anyone can solve the mystery of the “Clifford Temperature?”

CliffordMystery · 15/07/2021 21:45

This has been puzzling my husband and me for about 11 years now…

When my daughter was nearly 3 years old, we asked her if there was anything she would really like as a present.

She said she would really like “a Clifford Temperature.” We obviously asked her questions to try to ascertain what a Clifford Temperature might be, but to no avail.

We guess it might have been something to do with Clifford the big red dog - the Puppy Days one was on CBeebies at the time and she watched it occasionally. I can’t think where else the name Clifford would have come from.

We both imagine the “temperature” element to look like the old totaliser for the Blue Peter appeal - like a giant thermometer.

Of course we did extensive googling at the time, but there did not seem to be such a thing as a Clifford branded thermometer or anything that looked like one in existence.

Does anyone have any ideas as we’re still intrigued to know? Is anyone a Clifford expert and knows an episode where it might have featured?!

@tealandteal

My DS is asking for a germ gun for his birthday at the end of the month. A gun that shoots out germs. He cannot be convinced it's not real.
If it is, it wouldn't be on sale to kids. Just tell him to sneeze more...Grin

This could be something to do with gems? A gem mine digging thing?

@LobotomisedIceSkatingFan

Is it something about a 'Clifftop Adventure'?

My son suddenly started calling my mum 'Your Majestin Dit-Dilys' about twelve years ago (he's 14 too, for clarity). I always thought I'd watch one of his programmes and it's jump out at me, but it never did.

Was it like a Queen coming in and being presented with a trumpet fanfare and the “Dit-Dilys” was him doing the trumpet sound?

Clifford tent and chair?
Tent and chair sounds very similar to temperature. I had no idea who Clifford the dog was, but google comes up with a play house tent and a chair.

GoodMorningSunshine · 16/07/2021 08:24

Well this is odd because as soon as I read your frost message @CliffordMystery, I could picture Clifford and a stethoscope! There was definitely an episode with one in….(I think we had the book which is why I remember it)

Has he seen people using those contactless thermometers that look a bit like guns? If he knows they’re related to covid ‘germs’ he might have decided that’s what they are

Nerf gun, TealandTeal?

🤣 I’m definitely calling those thermometers ‘germ guns’ from now on. That’s really made me laugh,

Dd always wanted Daboots. She cried and cried because she didn't get Daboots on her birthday

Eventually we worked out it was Dora and Boots from Dora the Explorer which she had watched once at a friend's house.

I have a video of her opening a Dora and Boots toy. She literally shakes with joy.

Gatekeeper · 16/07/2021 08:33

Dd used to ask if we were going to "Fishygoggy" and we eventually worked out she meant B&Q Grin

That’s lovely. 😊

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was about an unsolved conspiracy theory, like asking “Can anyone solve the mystery of the Dyatlov Pass” type thing Grin

This is so much cuter!!

CliffordMystery · 16/07/2021 09:08

I did think at the time that it could be a height chart, but I couldn’t find a Clifford branded one available. The only place she’d ever been without me was the crèche at the gym a couple of times and I even asked them if they had something like this, but they had no idea!

My mum taught English as a second language in primary school. She asked the children what their favourite food was and one said "lobboth", which confused her greatly.

She finally figured it out. They were in the East End of London, and the locals had Cockney accents. This lad would hear others asking for a "lo' o' both" (lot of both - of whatever was on offer) and asked for the same.

Mum was v impressed with herself for that!

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff

My 3yo wants "political jam".

Any takers?

Maybe “a little pot of jam”?

Especially if ‘little’ is mispronounced as ‘lickle’ and the order is jumbled up to be “a pot (of) little/lickle jam”.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 17/07/2021 00:12

@LeopardPrintTits YES you are a genius!! I know what she means now! We have a dolls' house and the kitchen has a tiny pot of jam in, which I took away from her about a month ago as I caught her putting it in her mouth. I put it on a high shelf and forgot about it! That is totally political jam!

I reckon "take the brushes" is Weetabix.

CliffordMystery · 18/07/2021 00:38

I’m so pleased that the political jam mystery is solved, even though the Clifford Temperature mystery continues…

Take the buses

Am I the only one thinking; "Hold the door"

FarFromTheMaddingITCrowd · 18/07/2021 02:24

Could it be a fan? Like from Clifford Keeps Cool?

Hilarias · 18/07/2021 07:58

Love these mysteries! We’re currently struggling to work out what almost 3 year old DS means by ‘tegedoh’. We thought he was saying ‘together’ but it doesn’t work for all the times he uses it, eg. ‘Look mummy, tegedoh’.

LobotomisedIceSkatingFan · 18/07/2021 08:07

Is he saying 'Check it out'? Might it be on a programme he watches?

MrsToothyBitch · 18/07/2021 08:55

I am loving political jam! @JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff I don't know what the minimum order is but someone got my parents a load of hotel-personal sized jam with personalised labels from Tiptrees for their silver wedding! No idea why but it was v sweet (literally). I don't want to land you with a load of it but your Dd could have her own, named, very little jam pots!

MissyB1 · 18/07/2021 09:12

ds used to beg to go on the "Police Bus" we had no idea what that was until eventually we worked out it was the Megabus (a cheap double decker bus) which goes to London. It had a picture on the front of a cartoon bus driver with cap on - which to ds looked like a policeman!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 18/07/2021 22:13

Long shot, but could it be "there you go"?
