To please ask for help with my teeth

Name change for this as I find it really hard to talk about.

My teeth are horrid. Drinking too much fizzy and smoking has taken all the enamel from my teeth and they are yellow and sensitive. The last dental visit I was told I had gum disease and x-rays confirmed that a lot of the bone beneath the gum had gone.

Has this happened to anyone else. I'm so frightened to go back to the dentist and be told I'm going to lose my teeth.

Is anyone here a dentist? What are my options? I'm around 40 if that makes a difference.

What did you do if this happened to you, to end up with a lovely white smile?

Also, I no longer smoke/drink fizzy. But the damage is done.

I'm not a dentist but I get where you're coming from. It's very stressful and I have total empathy for you.

I can say that 100% you need to put yourself in the care of a trusted dentist. Lots of stuff can be done to help.

Are you brushing (including gums) with an electric toothbrush and flossing with an interdental brush? If not, start that right away.

Best of luck to you x

I was told I had irreversible gum disease about 2 years ago. Now totally under control. You really do need to go and get them cleaned with the hygienist (I went every 3 months, then 4, now 6), use interdental brushes etc. You can't ignore this or it will keep getting worse... I'm sorry...

You need to find a good dentist.

I understand your fears but ignoring the problem will make it worse.

Firstly invest in a good electric toothbrush and interdental brushes.

Then you need to visit the hygienist regularly - at least every 3 months.

First step is getting the gum disease under control and stoping bone loss.

Finally you need to talk frankly to your dentist about options - and there are options if you can get the gum disease under control but these options lesson the worse it gets.

(Not a dentist btw but have one in the family).

Try to find a private dentist who does a maintenance plan, and go to regular hygienist appointments and follow all the advice given.

I just want to add that dentists will be used to treating people with teeth issues/phobia etc.
They will have seen it all before.
The worst part is the fretting. You'll feel so much better when you have that appt
