To want to catch Covid now ?

And not later ?

I don't think we can avoid catching Covid in the next couple of years without restrictions I don't want to do

It's possible that some will happily not hug people/go into shops/not really travel on public transport for the next couple of years till hopefully it mutates into something much less horrid

So if I'm going to catch Covid I want it this summer now I'm double vaccinated. I don't trust the government to put in a proper booster shot in time.

I've had NO illnesses for 18 months - not one cold nor norovirus - really unusual since I worked with children until recently. I've not been 'proper' shopping to a shopping centre, no browsing, only a couple of socially distanced outdoor pubs and restaurants so I've caught nothing there.

I am obviously scared of Covid (looks really shit, scared of Long Covid) but I DEFINITELY don't want to catch it in winter when the there's more demand in hospitals.

I definitely don't want to catch it at one of those idiotic pox parties as the viral load would be much worse.

But I do want it now and not in a precarious future time Sad
@koteczek are you insane? You do not want to be taking ivermectin as a prophylatic - have you read the potential side effects on the BNF?
You don't want to be taking ivermectin as a treatment either - the lab trials that found an effect were at doses many times higher than the safe human dose.

It's for use in humans with covid only as experimental treatment in approved trials.

(It's main use is as veterinary parasite treatment)

Actually we don’t know how long immunity from vaccines last, Oxford think it could easily be much longer then six months. Studies are ongoing.
The booster jab campaign is a belt and braces thing to protect the vulnerable.
But yes, we will all come into contact with Covid over the next few years, most of us won’t notice really as the vaccines will do their job

there is a lot of negative publicity around it because there is no money to be made from it

That might be true in US, but it's not the case for NHS (would love a cheap effective treatment) and definitely not for India, or China or Russia.

I thought we'd all get it in April when the 10 year old got it but nope.

I then got it off a friend, feel like shit even though isolation is now up. Both of us double jabbed as well .

Do you have any theories as to why that would be?

I hope you feel better soon xx

I've had Covid twice, once at the beginning when I had long Covid for about six months and once this week. I also had it this week and it was like I had all the same symptoms: stomach upset, sore throat, fatigue, woolly head etc but less severe (no breathlessness this time) and over much quicker. I wasn't overweight particularly but I was quite run down before I got it.

I am also double vaxxed so I think it does make a difference. As long as they do booster shots for new strains, I think you should be fine with the vaxx plus keeping healthy and taking vitamins!

Grimacingfrog · 15/07/2021 09:23

Sorry I only had it once this week 🤪. Must proof read before posting!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 15/07/2021 09:43

@Buzzinwithbez the only thing I can think is that me and friend had a more contagious varient than my 10 year old. I'm pretty sure he got it from someone with an asymptomatic case at school but as far as I'm aware no one else caught it there either, or passed it on to their family members.

GabriellaMontez · 15/07/2021 10:21

@LaurieFairyCake i understand your thinking and to a point share it and your concerns too. I would add to that, the younger we have the first episode the better.

shinynewapple21 · 15/07/2021 10:30

Personally I'm going down the route of hoping not to get it at all! I shall continue to wear a mask in crowded indoor areas and socialise outdoors as much as is possible - there are several pubs not too far from me set up marquees for the outdoor openings so I'll continue to go there . I know I am lucky that I don't have to work outside the home or have children in education and realise everyone doesn't have the same choices .

I'll face the autumn / winter when it happens !!

@Pedalpushers

To be fair, I've had it once before Christmas, had a vaccine 5 weeks ago and have now got it again...
Yes but you will 99 % have delta now, not the variant that was around before Christmas. Many vaxxed are still catching this type but as long as you’re not in the hospital then the vaccine is doing it’s job
