Cancel or go ahead with 6th driving test

Hi guys!

I have my 6th driving test coming soon.

I had my last test in November. I booked one right after, but due to COVID, DVLA cancelled it and rescheduled it to first week of August. I have my own car, but in the last 6 months, I have done little to no driving at all for reasons that are beyond my control. I've been looking to change my test for the best 4 months but I've found no availability in my local test centres, which is so frustrating. I really want to have my driving license because it would make my life so much easier especially that my little one is starting nursery in September.

I'm debating cancelling all together and potentially doing it next year when there will be availability or just going ahead next month and trying my luck.

Try your luck. You’ve nothing to lose.

Is it manual or automatic op?

It took me 17 years to pass my driving test 😄 finally passed in an automatic age 34.

Have you tried using a driving test cancellation app/site (like Testi or Speedy) to find cancellations that you can take up?

You don’t really forget driving so I suggest doing an intensive course and giving it your best shot. If you fail you get the same outcome as cancelling anyway.

Oh wow! well done to you for passing Smile

I've done all of my tests in a manual car. May need to try an automatic if I don't pass this time.

I'd just go and do it. What have you got to lose? I passed on my 8th test Blush. By that point I'd stopped caring when I failed and just took it all in my stride.

Will you get your money back if you cancel? If you will I'd cancel or postpone until I could practice more. If you won't then you might as well have a go.

I would go for it, you have nothing to lose and you might be lucky and pass.

Good luck whatever you decide

I would try and rearrange as it sounds like you need to build up your confidence again if youve not been driving for a few months. You may be able to get something later in August or early September?

If you go ahead make sure you get as much practice as possible in before the test - ideally get an hour of driving practice in three or four or more times a week and make sure you have a good hour of driving on the actual day of the test so that it will come naturally to you!

OP has said that there's no availability. Coming from the same situation (test ready, just trying to book a test) it's impossible. She might be lucky to get a cancellation but as these happen on short notice (1-2 days before the test date) she needs to be test ready anyway.
