Recovered from Covid and banned from flying?!?

Am I being unreasonable to say that the government has made no accounting for those recovered from Covid who wish to fly but who may trigger a positive PCR (having tested positive within 90 days)? We have a villa holiday booked in August with extended family and we had Covid in June. We are fully vaccinated. We have been told by the NHS that we must be exempted from testing for 90 days, but the government website makes no exceptions for travellers who have recovered in that timescale and want to fly. This surely has to change in legislation urgently as it discriminates against a massive cohort of UK citizens?! Am I being unreasonable?

When I looked there was no travel insurer at all who will cover for covid-related cancellation, especially not a case like this.

Lots of travel insurers cover covid related cancellations. My annual one does and it did last summer too.

Placemarking to read at lunch as I'm in this situation too!

Why have you cancelled your holiday? ShockConfused

Cheeserton · 19/07/2021 08:33

Unfortunately there are restrictions in a pandemic still. Some may be unfair to the individual in the wider interest. This isn't news. honestly, everyone needs to calm down on the holiday booking if they want certainty about travel. That's simply the current reality. This thing is far from over, whatever stupid name they want to call this day today.

@HoppSuisse

The EU digital covid cert lets you upload either a vaccination cert, recovery cert or recent test result (type/date of test required depends on the country you go to). I dont understand why the UK have not brought out a digial pass compatible with this, as other European non-EU countries have done (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway). Would be a lot easier Confused
The U.K. has brought out a digital pass. Europe is currently not accepting it.

Yes, because it's not compatible. The UK has chosen to use it's traffic light system instead. Which the government just seem to make up as they along. Other countries manage to have set guidance for their travel - based on case numbers, variants (type and percentage), proportion on the population vaccinated - so that people can get an idea of whether or not regulations looks likely to change. The traffic light system seems mostly based on guessing. Hmm

Oh yes - I'm not for a minute suggesting that the UK method is any good. :D

Just to say that the digital pass isn’t in place in the whole UK. In Scotland, we have to request a hard copy letter, showing our vaccination status. I requested mine about 2 weeks ago, and still no sign.
So just a heads up for anyone in Scotland, to give it good time if you need it. (I’m not travelling, but thought I’d get it ‘just in case’.)

Hi Clymene- in the end it wasn’t because of the test situation, as I discovered I could now do a rapid antigen test. It was the thought that amber could become red and we would be stuck in a quarantine hotel. But as I have said, I’m gutted and I’ve even just been looking online and seen the same villa is still available 😩mentioned to my husband that maybe we should re-book and he thinks I have lost it completely. Which may very well be the case.

@Blah1881 hi I hope you are ok. The anxiety associated with this is real I know there are worse things going on! But I understand the amber to red the only thing I would have done is gone with it and just scrambled back early if it did go red whilst out there. We have booked Spain but for travel insurance that was advised on here so if we need to cancel we can and are covered.

Clymene · 19/07/2021 19:08

I think you should plead your case. Give it a go. What do you have to lose? I do t think they'll be making places red if they can possibly help it - not during the school holidays.

We have to go this summer - we can't move our flights again without paying nearly double what we've already paid (and we've moved them from last year anyway). So we've got the best insurance we can find and hoping for the best.

Try and rebook your villa. Sounds like you could all do with a holiday
