Early pregnancy second COVID vaccine

Hi. I had my Moderna Vaccine 7 weeks ago but I’m now 7 weeks pregnant. My second dose is due in 2 weeks time and I don’t know if I should take it or not? Anyone had a second dose in early pregnancy and if so did you have side affects?

I had my second jab before I got pregnant, so no personal experience. For what it’s worth, I would have the second jab in your situation, given the coming surge of the delta variant, the risk of developing Covid will be higher than ever.

If you have any medical conditions or come into contact with people through work or socialising, your risk is higher and the vaccine is more likely to be beneficial. If you are medically low risk and don’t have much contact with others, it’s less likely to be beneficial.

An alternative might be to delay the second jab until you’re in your second trimester, when the risk to you from COVID will be greater. But in the meantime the rates will be rising, and your chances of catching it.

Sorry for the wordy reply, but I don’t think this is a simple decision. This CDC website gives some helpful info about the jab in pregnancy.

Is there not advice on the NHS website, our health service advises waiting until after 14 weeks if you get pregnant between first and second vaccine, I presume because of the risk of getting a fever.

@Littlebutload I have looked on the NHS website and the information is pretty vague. Their is just no definite answer. My initial thought is to just get it as I fell pregnant really quick after the first jab and feel that it’s already in my system. It’s just a worry as I had a miscarriage last year and I’m just a little anxious about everything. 😳

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. The advice in ireland is very clear. Here's a link if you want to have a look www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/get-the-vaccine/pregnancy/

If it was me I would wait until after the 14 weeks to be sure, what's another few weeks in the grand scheme of things Smile

SisterBeaverhausen · 13/07/2021 19:59

I had first when I was 2 weeks pregnant do didn't know and the 2nd at 12 weeks. I'm now 21 weeks and she's healthy and growing.

I got mine as I'm CEV but I would advise talking to your GP/Midwife as they're best to offer you advice. Good luck with your decision 🤍

@Littlebutload thanks very much for the link. That information is much clearer. I think I will call and schedule my appointment for after I’m 14 weeks. By that time I would have had my scan. Xx

I had my first AZ vaccine before getting pregnant. I felt a bit rough for a few days afterwards. When I got pregnant I had initially decided not to get the 2nd dose (especially as there wasn't much data on AZ in pregnancy) but with the delta variant rising I weighed it up against getting covid when pregnant and decided to have it. I had my 2nd dose 15 weeks after the first when I was 16.5 weeks pregnant. Im now 22 weeks pregnant and all is good. I had no side effects from the 2nd jab. Id definitely recommend having the 2nd one as there is a fair bit of data on the moderna and pregnant women. You can postpone it til you are in the 2nd trimester if you have major worries about having it in the first.

Hello everyone. Thanks for all your responses. I have cancelled my appointment and will now book it for when I’m 14 weeks. I called and the advice was that I would still be immune and it was ok to delay it till then. It’s only delayed by 4 weeks but I feel better about it being after my scan. 😊
