I apologise because I know this had been done to death but I'm very confused as getting conflicting information.

Son tested positive on Sunday, initial symptoms had appeared on Tuesday. Taking us to this Friday midnight to be able to go out again. Yesterday husband tested positive so does that extent to us all isolating for another 10 days - until next Thursday, or can me (negative test results today) and son still go out at weekend?

Not looking at debating the morals/reasons etc but I really would appreciate if anyone can clarify because I admit I'm a bit brain-dead about all this. Thank you 🙏

I think you and your son can still go out. Here's a handy example link <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person&ved=2ahUKEwj788e3r-DxAhX0DmMBHWk5BbcQFnoECCQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2cCaBI--C1hkKaEi8cRUvF" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person&ved=2ahUKEwj788e3r-DxAhX0DmMBHWk5BbcQFnoECCQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2cCaBI--C1hkKaEi8cRUvF

No you don't need to extend your isolation in the absence of you having symptoms

MaxwellsChocolate · 13/07/2021 16:37

You and your son can go out Friday midnight if you don’t develop symptoms or test positive xx

dottymac · 13/07/2021 17:12

Thank you so much everyone, youve all explained it much clearer than the websites have. Much appreciated.

As I understand it, that assumes that Dh is isolating from you within the house, otherwise he could infect you, if you are in contact with him then you would need to isolate. Happy to be corrected

MummysLittleMonkey · 13/07/2021 18:08

We had exact same situation - I had it and family had to quarantine for 10 days while I immediately isolated. Unfortunately my daughter went on to test positive 5 days later so everyone EXCEPT me had to reset their quarantine period to 10 days from the day of her first symptoms, as they’d still been mingling. Same thing happened again when my other child came up positive, she and my husband had to start 10 days over again (backdated to what we saw in hindsight were the first symptoms, as they weren’t ‘typical’ symptoms). Husband ended up having more than three weeks of quarantine and he didn’t even get covid! Meanwhile I had covid and recovered and was back out in public before he was. This was advice given and clarified several times in person (phone) by the track and trace service. If you were all isolating separately from day one this would not apply though as you’d all fall under the original 10 day time frame, unless… anyone else tests positive within that time, then they have an additional 10 days on top, to get them out of the infectious stage.

BethTTC · 13/07/2021 18:13

I'm in the US so different rules.

But when our friend who was staying with us tested positive, DH and I were ordered to isolate for 10 days. I tested positive about 7 days later, so had to quarantine a further 10 days. Husband, who I did not socially distance from in the house, had to quarantine for 10 days AFTER I was released from quarantine. I think he was isolated for nearly 4 weeks!

dementedpixie · 13/07/2021 18:14

Test and trace are often giving the wrong info judging by several threads on here. They shouldn't be restarting isolation each time

CharlotteRose90 · 13/07/2021 18:15

You husband needs to be separate to you all to isolate but if you and your son don’t get symptoms you’ll be free on Friday.

MediocrePenguin · 13/07/2021 19:10

We had this. You are definitely free after 10 days isolation regardless if anyone else still had Covid on the house.
It is a bit strange!

BluebellsGreenbells · 13/07/2021 19:14

Isolation means being separated - not in the same rooms sharing facilities.

dottymac · 13/07/2021 19:20

Not sure if this has attached, it seems a simple pic to explain this type of situation and confirms what most of you have said, thanks so much.

Next question- if my son goes back to school on Monday, will he have to isolate again if someone else in his class happens to be positive afterwards? Or is there no more bubbles from then on? Trying to work out if it would be worth the risk so to.speak. apologies for the silly questions,.I can't seem to wade through the guidance. 😬

@dottymac yes he would! Very annoying - schools have been advised to keep the bubble system to the end of school

Thingsthatgo · 13/07/2021 19:28

I think those charts work on the assumption that your dh is isolating himself within the house. It doesn’t really make sense to me that someone who has had contact with a verified positive case can just end their isolation. Surely in this situation you could catch covid from your dh any day before Friday, and then pass it on when you go out? Or am I missing something?

Adzii77 · 13/07/2021 20:10

Another one here in same position. Daughter tested positive a week last Wednesday. All 4 of us started isolation. A few days later son tested positive, another couple of days husband tested positive. Two days before daughters isolation period ended, I tested positive. End note, my daughter finished her isolation and is now back in work, my son has finished his, mine is finishing Sunday night. If you are negative, you live by the first persons isolation period. If I had tested positive AFTER my daughter’s isolation ended, THEN she would have to start over. Doesn’t make sense, but that’s what I was told by the NHS folk, and government guidance.

I think that’s slightly different as you all tested positive
