Could anyone please help me identify what bites these are? Dust mites, fleas or bed bugs? They are on the feet, legs and arms. They are really really itchy. Thanks

OP, to check for fleas pop a piece of white paper on the floor or wear a pair of white socks. If there are fleas in the house they will show up on the paper/socks.

Fleas. Spot on for the animal and Indorex for the whole house.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/07/2021 13:50

LOL @ no mosquitoes in England, seriously? Grin

Janaih · 13/07/2021 13:54

Johnsons tablets are brilliant for killing live fleas on a cat, cat will go a bit crazy then shortly after you will see them falling off.
For the eggs you need indorex and careful hoovering. Empty contents into outdoor bin each time.
Please treat your cat for fleas even if you can't see any. It's hard sometimes and they don't always bite the humans in the house. But it's very unpleasant for cats, and in some cases they are literally bitten to death.

Inthesameboatatmo · 13/07/2021 13:57

Looks like flea bites to me .
Go to the vet and ask for indorex spray and get flea treatments.
Advocate for dogs also treats ares they lay on or walk around same as stronghold for cats ,treats area
They touch

idontlikealdi · 13/07/2021 13:59

Go to the vet to get proper treatment - the little bastards are immune to different products in different areas.

There are indeed Mozzies in England. I have 2 bites on my thigh atm. That's quite good going for me in high summer, I get bitten to bits quite often.

Your bites certainly look like moz bite lumps but the grouping makes me wonder.

Itwontstopraining · 13/07/2021 15:04

We don't get mosquitos in England! It's midges! Much smaller and don't carry diseases like mozzies, but do have an irritating bite.

Op you'll need a flea comb to comb your cat with, if you've they've got fleas then you'll either catch fleas or black specs of dirt in the comb (which if you then wipe a wet tissue over will run red - it's congealed blood)
You won't see fleas on bits of white paper unless you've got a full infestation which is unlikely.

HugeAckmansWife · 13/07/2021 15:13

My dd seems particularly susceptible to flea bites. We treat the cat, spray indorex and she also uses anti bite spray before bed at this time of year. It's a war of attrition.

Yes we do! yes there are mosquitos in the UK

We don't have malaria but we do have mosquitos, perhaps that is where the confusion lies

"There are more than 30 native mosquito species in the UK, some of which bite (such as Culex molestus) and others like Culex pipiens that are just a general nuisance and do not carry disease."

We do.

thing47 · 13/07/2021 16:09

Of course we have mosquitoes in England! What on earth makes people think we don't?

There are lots of different types of mosquitoes and what we don't have, luckily for us, are mosquitoes carrying malaria, dengue fever, zika or any of the other nasty vector-borne diseases. But we certainly have them.

Deux · 13/07/2021 16:17

@Itwontstopraining Jeez, there are loads of mozzies here in the SE. They even buzz. My neighbour has a pond and that’s where they come from here. When it’s hot I have to use full on Jungle Formula. You can even see the larvae on the pond.

OP I’ve had both mozzie bites and flea bites and for me the mozzie bites were bigger. Have you got any standing water around the house? Even a bucket that’s collected water can be a breeding ground.

That said if you’ve never had mozzie bites before but have a new cat then I’d go with fleas in the first instance.

LimitIsUp · 14/07/2021 15:22

Grin there's a life lesson itwontstopraining, before emphatically posting a fact, check first that it is indeed a fact

OP, when my dogs caught fleas I could literally see them jumping on them. I also didn't get a bite. I think you know for sure when your pet has fleas

Have you concluded what it is? My guess would be gnat / midge / mosquito
