I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not looking at trying these, I'm just curious...
I keep seeing adverts for these miricle weight loss tablets, raspberry ketones. The before and after photos of the people supposedly taking them are amazing, they seem to have lost an incredible amount of weight rather quickly. So this is where I get confused. If they are such a miricle cure then why aren't more people taking them or doctors prescribing them? Also if they aren't safe (as in losing so much weight so quickly, side effects etc?) why are they being so freely advertised? According to the adverts they've even had investments from dragons den (not sure if its the UK or USA version, the pictures keep changing) so does that mean they're safe??
Like I said I'm not looking at trying them, just interested in hearing others opinions or experiences.

I've never even heard of these, sounds like a gimmick.

I was low carbing on BIWI's bootcamp and understood ketones are what the body loses after your body has used up its store of glucose etc and starts using fat. That worked, I lost 1.5 stones in 2.5 months.

Think the clue might be in here Grin

People have been advertising snake oil for millennia. You do sound rather gullible, OP.

I have taken raspberry ketones. No adverse effects but I wouldn’t put any weight loss down to taking them. After loss you see in after photos will be because the person has also made changes to their diet and lifestyle.

This might be worth a read OP

Stevearnottsbeard · 13/07/2021 09:48

I'm not gullible @irresistibleoverwhelm, I said I wasn't interested in taking them, however other people maybe and could be in for a massive disappointment or further health issues. Like I said I was curious if other people felt the same

No they don't. The only way to lose body fat is by being in a calorie deficit. There's so much crap on the internet about diets etc but there is nothing more it. Obviously it's far from simple to adhere to and keep your energy expenditure high in the world we live in.

Dragons den just want money they don't care if they work or not, the diet industry must be worth billions.

If you look at it properly all these things have a disclaimer of
:In combination with healthy lifestyle/diet/whatevs and exercise.

Clicked too early.
Which essentially means they added 0.01% to the weightloss

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 13/07/2021 10:07

No

The only way to lose weight is to burn off more calories than you consume

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 13/07/2021 10:13

BIL is a personal trainer who specialises in working with obese older adults. He thinks raspberry ketones are total snake-oil.

The evidence supporting them for weight loss is weak, even nonexistent.

You might as well just eat the raspberries.

MrsToothyBitch · 13/07/2021 12:10

Calorie deficit is the only thing that really works.

Rainbowshine · 13/07/2021 12:15

You know that the before and after photos aren’t real? I have these ads all over a phone game, some of the people don’t even look like each other! It’s a total con but there’s enough gullible or desperate enough out there that will buy them so the adverts continue. The internet is the wild frontier with no real regulation so it’s hard for the authorities to stop it and take any enforcement actions.

HugeAckmansWife · 13/07/2021 12:19

Everything other posters have said, plus I think there is a psychological impact where if you are using them x times a day it's reminding you that you are on a weight loss regime and supposed to be making good choices so it might help you in that way but I don't think there's anything actually biological that works

FanFckingTastic · 13/07/2021 12:20

As with most things, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is.
