Video: Italy England Penalty Shootout - Both fans side by side

I was a neutral last night. Just watched this which has had a lot of views, shows Italy and England fans during the penalty shootout. Lots of comments below it mentioning the contrast between the fans, how the Italians simply celebrated as a group, whereas some of the England fans got into their faces when Italy missed. Also the Italian fans ignored a woman (in the England fan group) when she threw a drink over them.

So AIBU to think the Italian fans just seemed classier?

you should try a football match in Italy. I've been to a few. They are pretty horrific. They still make monkey noises at black players and have thrown bananas on the pitch.

a section of our fans behaved disgracefully and they should, rightly, be punished. But to think the Italian football fans are some sort of example we should hold ourselves to is laughable!

The city I live in has a really big Italian community. England and Italy fans sat together and cheered on their respective teams without it turning nasty, in good humour. The Italian association put out a meme before the match saying 'English grown with Italian roots'. It was lovely.

Of course that wasn't the behaviour of all England fans, and of course that's disgusting. But I'm pretty certain that plenty of English and Italian fans were able to watch the football together in harmony for the most part.

I do however get very embarrassed by these kinds of scenes, particularly booing national anthems and unfortunately some of our fans do seem to thrive on the perception that we're all a bunch of uncouth hooligans. Alcohol doesn't help of course. An 8pm kick off was always going to mean a day of drinking before the match. A bit of sunshine, access to a few pints and the country goes mad.

The Italian captain should have been sent off for trying to strangle an English player. The Italians were dirty cheaters, England were not.
Let's all pick on the behaviour of a minority of England fans whilst completely ignoring the behaviour of the minority of every other clubs fans.

Wrong shooting. Google some more. You'll find it.
You are also lying about me saying I am in fear for my life. I have said I fear repercussions (I've actually already spoken to the HT of the school I work at about the abusive messages from colleagues, and am also trying to decide whether to involve the police) and so I've barricaded myself in my home. I've seen enough on SM from people I know to not want to actually have any of that said to my face at the moment.

But you crack on with the completely unfounded accusations of lying and victim blaming. On the basis of a (wrong) Google and the fact you know a friend who went to the match.

Well, no, he shouldn't have. He wasn't the last man and it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity so by the laws of the game it's a yellow card - exactly what he got.

Good selective memory too. Happy to ignore the embarrassing amount of diving done by Kane and Sterling during the tournament whilst calling another team cheats. None of this is nice football (from either side) but is the way of the game. The Italians were the better side over the game. England tried to hold the lead and chased the ball all game - something that is incredibly difficult to do for 90 minutes as they discovered.

  1. I'm not the only poster
  2. I'm on the racism threads deploring what the racist thugs are doing and saying
  3. I don't live in a village.
  4. I've never said I think my whole "village" will attack me
  5. I don't feel my life is in danger. (until yesterday we had both Italian and English flags on our balcony)
  6. My workplace isn't unsafe. I've discovered since Sunday that some abusive knuckle draggers work there.
  7. Why should I leave? My home is here. Has been for almost 3 decades. Is telling someone they should leave akin to telling a woman not to wear a short skirt so she doesn't get groped?

So, 7 untruths and misconceptions in one post. Yet I'm the liar.

Geamhradh That poster is being deleted left right and centre at the moment so take no notice of them. Hope you are ok
