Does a pram exist that can accommodate non-mobile heavy 3 year old and newborn?

Apologies for this being in AIBU - just feeling completely stuck and anxious! My DD, who is currently 17kg, has just turned 3 and has severe disabilities (non-mobile / can't walk / tube fed / epilepsy, visually impaired etc)

DC2 is due late December / early January and I'm starting to really panic about how on earth I'll manage to take the both of them out at the same time. DD currently has a wheelchair pram, but I can't seem to find a pram that is suitable for a very heavy toddler and a newborn. I've tried a few in Mamas and Papas but she was just so big and most only up to 15kg. A few go up to 22kg but realistically I don't know how long that will last her.

I'm planning to have DC2 in a sling or wrap type thing to start with but obviously long term it's not always ideal. Does anyone have any ideas or have been in the same boat? Pram manufacturers would make a fortune making a double buggy for disabled children! Maybe I'll take it to dragons den Grin Thank you so much for any help.

I had a New Zealand brand double buggy (Pedigree Sport) that was fantastic for my 2. My oldest has disabilities, DS2 is 17 months younger.

We have a Hamax bike trailer that converts to a two child buggy which held my 7 and 2 year old (up to 50kg). I reckon it would fit one of the MacLaren carry cots inside, and it is wide but fits in 90% of shops.

Uppababy vista with rumble seat, really roomy, strong and no faffing with punctures!

EssentialHummus · 12/07/2021 21:18

Another vote for Nipper 360 (and slime the tyres to avoid punctures!). Seats recline individually and can lie flat for a newborn.

You're all brilliant!! Thank you so so much for taking the time to comment, it's so appreciated. When DD was born she was perfectly healthy and so never imagined this would be our scenario, but alas it is what it is. (And she's wonderful and gorgeous - Just huge Grin)

I will be doing a lot of Googling tonight with all these suggestions! I've just looked into the Out n About 360 which looks excellent (and a huge plus I don't actually need a carry cot part) - an insert will keep a newborn nice and snug I assume!? DD had a travel system for the first year and I feel like I've forgotten it all!

You need a Phil and teds sport but not the new style, the older one has more space at the back between the seats....I pushed my 6 year old around in one when she broke her collarbone, they are great for big toddlers....The only prob that I can forsee with it is that the rear seat doesn’t lie flat for a newborn so you might be better looking at something side to side if you’re doorway is wide enough!

With the out and about nipper you can just use the newborn insert but I wanted a bit more protection and so used the Phil and teds carry cot inside it. It fitted really snuggly and bonus was I could lift it out with baby still sleeping inside.

Actually the Phil & teds does lie flat at the back for a newborn but you then have to use the rear (smaller) seat at the front which might not be as comfortable for you eldest....inline means the weight will be even distributed

You can also put it in the other way to keep baby’s head tucked in more, but it’s quite dark doing that and I didn’t want her to sleep here!

Its a great buggy, i'd recommend the carrycot rather than just a cushion insert. Newborns look so unsupported when just put in lie flat pushchairs. Carrycot means they'll face you too, which is useful and better for development.

Having had both a Phil & Teds and a 360… 360 every time!!

Arriettyborrower · 12/07/2021 21:44

I had a nipper single and double - loved them! DS3 has cerebral palsy and didn’t walk until 4 ish, DS4 was born when he was 2 so had them both in it for several years easily plus multiple other kids on the footplate and hood at times. It was literally indestructible! DS4 was December born so the newborn insert and foot muff was just grand.

Arriettyborrower · 12/07/2021 21:45

Just to say DS3 was in the nipper single for ages as well with DS4 walking/sitting on hood/footplate etc. Also used buggy pod on nipper/wheelchair.

Another vote for the nipper double! I used newborn insert. I decided it was ok to have dc2 not facing me as was with sibling. I also had dc2 in a smaller single buggy that faced me whilst older dc was in nursery. Older dc is now 4 and comfortably fits in the nipper double. There is also a good selling page for them on Facebook - something like ‘buy/sell out n about’ I initially got a v cheap second had one and upgraded when I realised we liked it
