Sorry I'm shamelessly posting for traffic...

But I'm really uncomfortable so please forgive me! I started a new medication (escitalopram) last week. All going OK but I'm really bloated in my stomach. I'm going to speak to my GP tomorrow.

But in the meantime I wondered if anyone could share best cures for bloating and trapped wind.

It's in my stomach rather than lower in my intestines. Feels hardish and like I need to burp, almost like an ache.

So far I've tried gripe water, rennies, soda water (thinking the gas would help a burp) and peppermint tea. I'm trying not yo panic and think it is just a side effect but not sure when I should be worried.

Fennel tea helps with wind. . Does it mention bloating on possible side effects of your meds?
Hope you find some relief soon.

Remember most side effects go as you adjust so try not to get anxious about it.

The side effects list is as long as my arm. But yes it does mention it. Just general gastro discomfort. But then online people say it's common.

I'll try the fennel tea. Thanks.

Quick one is Endiaron or Imodium. They helped me in emergency a lot.

Also there are certin slow wxercise moves which can help untrap that wind. But that's more for intestinal area.

Peppermint tea should help too a bit

check if you can use this with your medication/conditions (or contact pharmacist)
Peppermint oil capsules which you swallow whole at least half an hour before eating i(e mintec ) with plenty of water -do not lie down for at least half an hour after taking them

Thanks for the replies.

I'm on the peppermint tea. It helps a bit but it's more a bit of relief once it's occurred. But not much relife either!

I'll try those meds @SchrodingersImmigrant for when it's happening. Like now! Might pop to the shops.

Where as the capsules may be more preventative?

I'll definitely check all are OK with my medication. I have a touch of health anxiety. So I would anyway Blush

Peppermint tea
OTC Simeticone (Simethicone) - Savers sell the cheapest one, in think it's called WindSetlers
Activated charcoal - again, Savers is cheapest
Yoga stretches
Walking
Hot water bottle on abdomen

Don't drink fizzy drinks!
