Behaving in cinemas/children at post 6pm performances.

So I've decided to avoid the football and go and see Black Widow in the cinema thinking it will be nice and quiet.

3 other people in the cinema, a dad and 2 boys both under 8. Before the film every few seconds its 'Dad ......' but I figured that they will pipe down when the film starts.

Film starts and it carries on so I move but can still hear them so I've come out , complained to the manager who has moved me to another performance.

AIBU to think that if your children don't know how to behave in the cinema you shouldn't go when its a later showing ( I think 7pm start for a 2hr 15 min film is late). Plus its a 12A so its going to contain gruesome violence .

I'm currently sitting in my car waiting for the 8.30 performance.

I’m a bad person to ask as l have no qualms about asking people to be quiet in the cinema. But yeah if they don’t know how to behave then they shouldn’t be going It’s hardly a 3pm Disney film

Pretzelcoatl · 11/07/2021 20:21

He (the dad) probably figures that since it is deserted (except for you), that it’s not a big deal. Hopefully he’d normally take them out if they wouldn’t behave.

Same as you’re supposed to do in restaurants, banks, clothing stores, or anywhere else that is a business or service where it affects others.

MistyFrequencies · 11/07/2021 20:21

If I did take my kids to an after 6 showing I'd be warning them about no talking during and taking them straight home if they didn't heed that warning.
3pm Disney movie you'd expect kids chatter. 7pm adults movie = chatter not on.

bakingdemon · 11/07/2021 20:29

I am that person who will first ask and then tell the parent to keep their kids quiet, before going to complain. I even kicked a woman's seat in front of me once until she ended a phone call in the cinema Grin

Onlinedilema · 11/07/2021 20:33

Inconsiderate
I preferred the days when a rating was given and the staff adhered to it.
So a 12 film could not be seen by anyone under 12.

kowari · 11/07/2021 20:35

DS was seeing 12 rated films from age 8 (Marvel, X-men, Star Wars etc) but I think if they can't behave as well as a 12 year old then they shouldn't be in there.

OnTheBoardwalk · 11/07/2021 22:31

How can an age 8 be admitted into a 12 rated film? It’s not a PG

@OnTheBoardwalk
They just have to be accompanied by an adult for a 12A, it's not like a 15 where they have to be 15.

Hankunamatata · 11/07/2021 22:39

9pm shows are o ly.ones iv found are kids free

Kanaloa · 11/07/2021 22:41

How annoying. To be honest if your child can’t sit quietly throughout a film you should take them to one of the kids showings so they aren’t disturbing other viewers.

SisterMonicaJoansHabit · 11/07/2021 22:44

Pisses me the fuck off.

Twice ever, I've been with either or both of my kids, and removed us from the film due to their inability to behave.

Waste of my money but it's the right thing to do.

It's the least I expect from others.

Holothane · 11/07/2021 22:45

After a Star Wars film showing were a kid talked non stop I vowed never to go again, only exception are 007 films. (Tradition for us meal out new clothes). I prefer to get the blu ray.

VariantL1130 · 11/07/2021 22:45

YANBU to want quiet in the cinema.

But YABU re the rating. I went earlier today with my 8 year old and it's not gruesome. It's a 12A which means children under 12 can see it with an adult.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 11/07/2021 23:06

Yanbu it's so annoying

OnTheBoardwalk · 11/07/2021 23:11

kowari fair enough. You said 12 I wasn’t aware there was a 12a

I'll avoid these although I absolutely accept you make your kids behaved

SleepingStandingUp · 11/07/2021 23:14

It's a 12A so under 12s need to be accompanied
kowari · 11/07/2021 23:45

kowarifair enough. You said 12 I wasn’t aware there was a 12a
There is only 12a at the cinema, that's what I meant by 12.

Onlinedilema · 11/07/2021 23:51

Yes what I mean is back in the day, there wasn't a 12a or a 15a or whatever. It was clearly U, PG, 12, 15 and 18 or something like that. So a film rated 12 ( if that rating existed) meant nobody under the age of 12 could go in, and of. Much better in my opinion.
All this A rating just let's shit parents take their bratty kids into the cinema and ruin it for everyone else. This is one of the reasons I hardly go to the cinema.

kowari · 11/07/2021 23:55

Though in my experience it's usually the adults who don't behave. Talking, checking phones during the film and so on, the children are usually fine!

BadLad · 11/07/2021 23:57

If "us" includes a male partner, does he wear a tuxedo?
Mymapuddlington · 11/07/2021 23:57

12a isn’t gruesome.
Marvel films are aimed towards kids.
7pm isn’t late.
Dad took his kids when the cinema was almost certain to be empty.

We went to one of the really nice (wanky) Curzon cinemas once on NYE, champagne served etc, and the woman next to me was texting her mate, just shit like ‘yeah it’s pretty boring’ and ‘yeah I’ll be at the bar later’ (yes I was reading it, hard not to when her phone is lit up next to me like a bloody Christmas tree) I said can you fucking well stop and put your phone away. She did but a moment later got up with her boyfriend and whacked me with her bag and hissed ‘I WAS DEALING WITH BAD NEWS YOU BITCH MY DAD MIGHT BE DEAD’

But at least she left 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve no qualms about telling people to pack it in, it’s so bloody rude.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 12/07/2021 00:12

I’ve turned round in my seat before to give a death stare to the girl and her parent when she wouldn’t stop kicking my chair. Didn’t have to say a word, just glared at them till they took the hint. Bloody ferals.
