To go to hospital (maternity) 24 weeks

DueinOct21 · 10/07/2021 17:50

I'm exactly 24 weeks today and have had a straight forward pregnancy thus far.

For the past 2 days I've been totally drained to the extent I just can't do much, not that alarming in itself but i had an unavoidable walk to the shops today as needed shopping and really struggled. Not like me.

On the way there I started getting stomach pain, all over my bump but predominantly across my bikini line (like strong period cramps)

Trudged home and the pain is still there albeit a bit worse and occasionally spreading to my back. Slightly loose bowels. The pain is a mixture of period-like cramps and a burning sensation.

Plenty of movement from baby.

Will they think I'm wasting their time If I go in? Pre term labour doesn't seem likely but something is obviously up isn't it.

Has anybody else had similar and it been just part and parcel of pregnancy?

In my opinion it is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to pregnancy, nobody will judge or think you are wasting time.

It could be early labour, it could be a nasty UTI which is what happened to me.

Is it possible to get a taxi or is there someone who can take you there? If not, can you manage on the bus? Good luck.

Cleverpolly3 · 10/07/2021 18:21

can nobody give you a lift?

I had this at exactly this gestation with my first baby and it was a horrific uti that left me with kidney issues for a long time and I was according to the consultant days away from premature labour if it had been left untreated

Let us know how you are I hope you don’t have to get two buses

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 10/07/2021 18:24

There's no such thing as time wasting with pregnancy and the midwives would always rather you went in than you didn't if you have concerns. Go with your gut.

bloodyhell19 · 10/07/2021 18:24

I had Braxton Hicks at that stage - the difference was the tightness would stop if I sat or lay down or just changed position. Glad you're on your way to the maternity unit, always better to check in with them.

PotteringAlong · 10/07/2021 18:24

Well, even if you could drive, you couldn’t drive for an hour if you think you’re in labour (or any distance at all in labour for that matter!). Get a taxi.

holfr020 · 10/07/2021 18:36

Follow your gut - I was about 25 weeks when I felt off, had lots of discharge and felt like I had something between my legs but no pain at all. Got fobbed off as irrational two days later found a drop of blood, they agreed to see me and it turned out my cervix was dialated and membranes bulging. I didn't have baby for another two weeks but its was an awful two weeks. I was so upset with myself as I knew something was not right xx

Monkeymilkshake · 10/07/2021 18:37

You never waste their time. NEVER! Good idea to go to the hospiral. Hope it all goes well

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/07/2021 18:40

Wheres babys dad? Can he drive?

Hallyup6 · 10/07/2021 18:42

Sounds like a UTI to me so definitely get checked out. Don't ever be worried about wasting a midwife's time. You won't be.

MouldyPotato · 10/07/2021 18:44

@DueinOct21

Thanks ladies, I'm going to go in.

I won't be able to leave for an hour or so as I have to sort the children but I'll get my notes and bits together now.

Hope it all goes okay, you're doing the right thing.
DueinOct21 · 10/07/2021 18:46

I'm leaving now I'll update later on, thank you all for the push to go and get checked out. Better safe than sorry.

MichelleScarn · 10/07/2021 19:01

Hope all OK @DueinOct21

BillyShears · 10/07/2021 19:02

Doesn’t sound right, and I had very bad BHs with my first. Good luck!

Dishwashersaurous · 10/07/2021 19:52

Good luck

BobbidyBob · 10/07/2021 20:15

When it’s not your first and something feels off, definitely better to get checked. You’re doing the right thing. Good luck!

DueinOct21 · 10/07/2021 20:16

Here now, I've got a long wait by the sounds of it as they're about to hand over for the night shift and have multiple women in labouring.

I'm having to sit in the waiting area outside the ward.

One positive though they took a urine sample from me as soon as I arrived and that was clear.

Findahouse21 · 10/07/2021 20:19

Good luck OP, here if you want some mindless chat during your wait :)

IrishCharm · 10/07/2021 21:02

Just to say good luck @DueinOct21
I think you did the right thing going and getting checked out x Fingers crossed all is ok x

Ohhyeahright · 10/07/2021 21:21

Sounds a bit like round ligament pain. Hope you’re ok op.

blueberryporridge · 10/07/2021 21:25

Good to get things checked out. I had bad pain about that stage which turned out to be gallstones although unfortunately it wasn’t diagnosed as that till about a year later (but that’s another story!). Gallbladder problems can start off in pregnancy. Good luck and hope you and baby are ok.

AngelDelightUk · 10/07/2021 21:39

Hope everything is going ok

Greenbks · 10/07/2021 21:53

Will they send the urine sample to the lab? I ask bcos all my itinerary samples came back clear when dip tested but only showed infection when sent to lab.

As a result I have to ask them to do that now as it only becomes symptomatic when I have cramps.

Hope you’re ok.

CliffsofMohair · 10/07/2021 21:56

Hope things are going ok OP.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/07/2021 22:01

Hope you are ok op.
