We’ve had a whole pile of things go wrong in the house and savings have taken a hammering.

We’ve got a caravan booked for 2 weeks with a 5 year old son: but we don’t have much in the way of spending money, so will need to be careful with the pennies. Any ideas of how we can still have fun on a budget?!

If the weather is half decent you might find a bucket and spade and a pair of armbands will keep him happy for most of the hols!

Essentialironingwater · 08/07/2021 20:11

Also if you say where the caravan is there might be some MNers with local free/cheap ideas.

MrsMillhouse · 08/07/2021 20:13

We’re not near a beach unfortunately, but we will be near Pitlochry! The caravan park has a pool so that will be fun on some of the days

Check towns nearby. Some events are coming back. Free museums or very cheap attractions arr all over too.

Bubbles appealed to 5 and 6 year olds i had. Veru cheap bundle from tesco. 4 hours of fun.

If there is a forest go and make little whateber shelter fromcollected branches and moss. Van be faries. Can be animals. Whatever they like.

Take some ties or bows. Make a map and go a trail where they need to find a bow to cross and at the end there is a treasure. Cheap sweets will suffice .

Walks, cycles, scootering. Go visit ruins, my young boys love raking about in old ruins.

Download geocaching app and go hunting for treasure

About favourite of my kids they absolutely love it. Especially if it's one with bits of old junk in (I mean treasure it Smile) they are always delighted to come home with bits and bobs

MrsMillhouse · 08/07/2021 21:46

Ooh thanks for the ideas folks! I’ve no idea what geo catching is! So off to google it

Do you have an Asda nearby? They are doing a spend £50, get £10 off activity vouchers... its not a massive range, but every little helps

BelterDelta · 08/07/2021 22:55

Go onto the tourist information website for the area and that should hopefully have ideas, or if you’re on Facebook see if there are local groups to give you ideas too x
