To be panicking over test and trace

So work are extremely short staffed at the minute, I'm working all I can and it's a very stressful place to be. I asked for a day off not long ago and they couldn't facilitate this at all. It feels like a completely sinking ship and I'm ran off my feet when I'm at work. (Home care assistant)

I have however, received an alert to self isolate from the NHS app. It literally couldn't have came at a worse time and I need to ring my manager in the morning to tell her and I'm so worried that they'll think I'm lying or something and just trying to get some time off work. They're not great to work for as it is but I can imagine this is going to go down like a lead balloon.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm feeling so anxious about it. Not quite sure why as I can't do anything about it now but I really am.

Screen shot the text from test and trace? I’ve in a similar position and my work have been fab

Do you have another way of contacting your manager? Could you send a screenshot of the app alert to her by email/work WhatsApp?

sunnysays · 08/07/2021 20:19

Thank you, yes I'll definitely send proof. I'll email her in the morning and go from there

The Scottish app has the option to get a certificate, is there anything like that?

Sharkology · 08/07/2021 20:52

Well ask if they want you to isolate from the app as it is not legally binding - that way the ball is in their court. Do you know what is on the risk assessment?

It's only the phone calls that can be legally enforced.

If you've knowingly been in contact with someone with the virus and choose not to isolate - particularly in OPs occupation - you're a massive dick.

Shark - I couldn't possibly not isolate, and if management tell me that I need to be at work regardless then there is a massive safeguarding issue. I'm with a lot of end of life service users and some extremely vulnerable

@sunnysays actually NHS staff are not isolating with app notifications. Many trusts were asking staff not to isolate unless they had symptoms too even with positive LFT tests.

@girlmom21 You either don't know how the app works, or you don't understand that OP may not have actually been in contact with anyone with COVID. It is entirely up to work places on what method is being used for staff to isolate.

OP could have been sat on a train and someone walked past outside the train for the app to ping her - same with cars etc.

I would expect them to be understanding then. If you have the proof then what do they expect you to do? If you came in and killed their service users im sure they wouldn't be happy.
Minfilia · 09/07/2021 08:49

Surely common sense would say that if you KNOW you’ve been in contact with Covid, then isolate.

But it’s just a ping from an app, you’re double jabbed and you don’t have any idea whether it’s valid or not, you just continue to take LFT and don’t isolate? It’s not legally enforceable and if you didn’t have the app, you wouldn’t be required to stay at home right now…

Unless you work with vulnerable people, in which case ask your boss for their opinion.

Sharkology · 09/07/2021 10:19

@Minfilia exactly what you've written.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 09/07/2021 10:47

The app is so badly made, I'd be really tempted to delete it and ignore the notification. However, before you do - see if you can find out more about the potential contact "event" that generated the notification.

The location you were in, makes a difference to my response. If, for example, it was a multistory car park, chances are they could have been 3 floors away and you never "breathed their air".

Can you find out more?
