WHY am I so knackered when I should have more energy than ever?

Hello people,

I've been doing a Masters part time while working full time. When I started, DD was 2, she's now 4.5yrs old. In July 2019 I kicked out abusive DH and we really need to get divorced.

I've been made redundant and put on garden leave. The first few weeks were great and I felt amazing and was getting loads done.

Now I have a stinking cold (not Covid, I've been tested) and feel ABSOLUTELY exhausted.

I've no energy or desire to do anything other than what I absolutely need to do.

Has anyone experienced this or have any research they know of which would explain why, when I need(!) the energy, it's just not there.

Really hoping it comes back, and soon. Final deadline for my Masters is 23rd July and I should be working but just cannot face doing anything at the moment...

Btw this isn't some weird humble brag - just wondering if you can store up stress and worry and if it will inevitably come out at some point?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes it's a but like an adrenaline hang over, you've suddenly stopped after months of coping and being on high alert, exercise and sleep!

Is it a "thing"? I can't work until mid-August so I have more time than ever but feel like a permanently exhausted pigeon!

It's totally a thing for your body to come down with an illness after a prolonged period of stress ends. It's not "in the mind", it's physiological. If I had the energy, I would look up some links for you Grin

Be kind to yourself, bodies need time to heal. And colds can be bastards.

It is a thing and it often happens to people with stressful jobs, as soon as they are on holiday.
Be kind to yourself. Flowers

Oh my god I’m exactly the same. I thinks it’s emotional exhaustion, you have been juggling loads before the pandemic, then pandemic and you are in touching distance of finishing your Masters. I feel the exact same including the cold, Masters and no energy to finish. I feel paralysed with procrastination and low energy and don’t know how to get out of this funk.
Good luck 🤞you can do this.

HarrietHairbrush · 08/07/2021 20:06

I would also get your levels checked

Royalbloo · 08/07/2021 20:19

It's terrible isn't it Blanca87?! I am not working?!!! I should be energy laden!!!!

HarrietHairbrush do you mean at the Dr's? I hadn't thought of that...

Thank you GrandmaSteglitszch

ThursdayWeld I wish I could be arsed to research it...but after all the research for my Masters, it ain't happening!

It's definitely a thing!

Absolutely normal. First day of the holidays you finally succumb to a cold. It's normal. And shit.

Take serious care of yourself for a couple of weeks. Vitamins. Sleep. Something vaguely healthy exercise wise. Good food. Fun with friends and you'll start to turn it around.

Toomanyradishes · 08/07/2021 22:42

I remember when i did work experience with dictors they said they all got a cold or illness when they went on holiday because they finally stopped and relaxed and all the effects of stress and adrenaline hit them at once

Lockdowndramaqueen · 09/07/2021 07:56

Magnesium, zinc and vit C will all help lift your system.
